Drawing a house is a fun way to use your imagination and train your drawing skills, but sometimes it's hard to know where to start. Fortunately, drawing a two-dimensional or three-dimensional house is simple once you know how to go about it. After designing the basic elements, you can start customizing it to create a unique and exclusive project.
Steps
Method 1 of 2: Draw a Two-dimensional House
Step 1. Draw a rectangle
This first rectangle will be the structure of the house. Aspect ratio is not a problem, but make sure that the rectangle is not too long or too thin, otherwise the house will look unrealistic.
Use the ruler to draw the rectangle so that the lines are straight and accurate
Step 2. Draw a triangle above the rectangle to create the roof
The base of the triangle must coincide with the top of the rectangle. Also, the triangle must be wider than the rectangle.
The triangle must be about the same height as the rectangle. If it is too high, the house will look quirky
Step 3. Add the chimney and some horizontal lines on the roof
To make the chimney, draw a tall, thin vertical rectangle on the left side of the roof. Then, draw a smaller horizontal rectangle on top of the vertical one. To represent the tiles, draw equidistant lines running from one side of the roof to the other. They must be horizontal and parallel.
The number of lines does not matter, but it is important that they are all at the same distance
Step 4. Add some windows on the facade of the house
For each window, draw a rectangle and then draw two lines in the center, one horizontal and one vertical, to divide it into four identical sections. Add a thin horizontal rectangle below the window to depict the sill.
Freely decide how many windows to draw, but remember to leave space for the door
Step 5. Draw a vertical rectangle on the facade of the house to represent the door
It must start at the base of the house and stop before the roof. You can add a circle near the center of the door to represent the doorknob.
You can add a thin horizontal rectangle to the base of the door to depict an entry step
Step 6. Color the house to complete your artwork
There is no right or wrong way to color it: you can give free rein to your imagination. If you want your home to look realistic, use classic shades, such as white, black, gray and brown. If you prefer it to be cheerful and colorful, use bright colors, such as red, blue, yellow and green.
Method 2 of 2: Draw a Three Dimensional House
Step 1. Draw a cube
The cube will be the main structure of the three-dimensional house. To get a cube, start by drawing a thin horizontal rhombus. Add three vertical lines extending from the bottom three corners of the rhombus, then connect the end point of the vertical line in the center with the end of the two side vertical lines by drawing two straight lines. These last two lines should be parallel to the two lower sides of the rhombus.
The cube doesn't have to be the exact size, but make sure it's not too short and narrow or too tall and wide or the house won't look realistic
Step 2. Draw one side of the roof over the cube
Start by drawing a straight diagonal line extending from the center corner of the cube. It must be exactly as long as the vertical lines you drew to represent the sides of the cube. Add a parallel line of the same length extending up, starting from the right side of the cube. Finally, connect the ends of the two lines with a straight line.
When you are done, erase the unnecessary lines inside the figure
Step 3. Connect the upper left corner of the cube with the tip of the roof
Draw a straight line between the two points to complete the roof. The line must be diagonal.
Erase unnecessary lines from inside the figure
Step 4. Add windows and a door to the walls of the house
Draw small horizontal rectangles to represent the windows. Make sure they are equidistant and remember to leave space for the door. Add a vertical rectangle extending from the base of the house to depict the door. For a realistic result, the top of the door should be the same height as the neighboring window.
If you wish, you can add a square window in the center of the roof gable (i.e., in the triangular front)
Step 5. Draw the final details to complete your artwork
You can add the chimney and a lattice to depict the roof tiles. Draw a small circle on the door for the knob and give the windows depth with some chiaroscuro so they are more realistic. You can also add a fence and some trees if you have imagined a house with a garden.
- Once you have designed the main structure of the house, you can customize it by adding new elements and details, such as a garage, a step, other doors and whatever you can think of.
- When you are satisfied with the result, you can consider coloring the house as you like.
