Squirrels are cute little animals! If you want to learn how to draw one, in cartoon or realistic style, follow this tutorial.
Steps
Method 1 of 4: Cartoon Style Squirrel
Step 1. Draw the head and body
- Draw a circle for the head and a pear-shaped figure right below it.
- Optional: Draw a vertical line running from one end of the pear to the other.
- Make sure you use a pencil for the sketch so that you can erase the guidelines later, once you are done drawing.
Step 2. Add the ears and chin
- Draw 2 long curved lines for the ears.
- Add a horizontal oval at the bottom of the head. This will serve for the squirrel's chin or cheeks.
Step 3. Add a large letter "S"
It will become the squirrel's tail
Step 4. Add the legs
- Draw a circle at the base of the pear; this will become the hip bone. Since the angle of the perspective is three quarters, only half of the other hip should be visible.
- As for the front paw, add a leaning "U" shaped figure on the body.
Step 5. Add two elongated ovals under each circle
They will become the rabbit's hind legs
Step 6. Trace the sketch with a pen
- Be aware of overlapping lines and parts that should be hidden.
- The stroke may not be perfect and sharp, but it should still look neat once you've erased the pencil-drawn parts.
Step 7. Erase the pencil sketch and add the details
- You can add details like the ears, eyes, mouth, nose and fur.
- You could also add extra lines to emphasize the paws and fur.
Step 8. Color your squirrel
A squirrel can have different shades, ranging from orange to red and can also tend to brown or gray - it depends on the breed
Method 2 of 4: Realistic Red Squirrel
Step 1. Draw a large circle and a teardrop-shaped figure on the side
They will become the squirrel's head and body
Step 2. Add the joints of the front and hind legs
Then draw two circles. One should be larger than the other (the one for the hind legs). The circles and the head should form a series of right-leaning figures
Step 3. Add the ears and legs
- Add two curved figures for the ears. Depending on the breed, you can change them a bit. Some squirrels have longer, pointed ears.
- As for the paws, add trapezoids to each circle. There should be one at the base of the hind leg circle, another connected to the leg / thigh circle, and a small trapezoid for the body.
- The smaller trapezoid is for the leg hidden behind the squirrel's body.
Step 4. Add tail, legs and face
- Draw a large letter "S" upside down from the body. This will become the squirrel's tail.
- Add small triangles to the end of each trapezoid to get the claws.
- Add two small circles for the face: one for the eyes and the other for the muzzle.
Step 5. Trace the sketch with a pen
- Be aware of overlapping lines and parts that should be hidden.
- The stroke may not be perfect and sharp, but it should still look neat once you've erased the pencil-drawn parts.
Step 6. Erase the pencil sketch and add details
- You can add details like the ears, eyes, mouth, nose and fur.
- You could also add extra lines to emphasize the paws and fur.
Step 7. Color the squirrel
A squirrel can have different shades ranging from orange to red and they can also lean towards brown or gray - it depends on the breed
Method 3 of 4: Realistic Style
Step 1. Draw a large oval shape in the center of the paper
This will be the head.
Step 2. Sketch an eye and ears
Draw a small egg shape on each side of the oval, at the top. Inside the oval, make another, smaller one.
Step 3. Draw a vertical oval under the head on the right side
This will be the body.
Step 4. Sketch her cute paws
At the top of the body, draw a long horizontal oval superimposed on a smaller one.
Step 5. Draw a large circle and two narrow ovals across the lower body for the hind legs
Step 6. Draw a long arched oval along the right side of the body
It will be the tail.
Step 7. Review the squirrel's contours and add details such as eye trims, long thin fingers and lots of hair all over the body
Step 8. Carefully erase the guidelines and stamp the outlines
Step 9. Add the color and it's done
Method 4 of 4: Cartoon style
Step 1. Draw an oval shape in the center of the paper
This will be the head.
Step 2. Draw two pointed ovals for the ears at the top of the head
-
Draw a narrow oval on the inside of the head.
It will be the eye.
-
Draw another pointed oval at the bottom of the head.
It will be the mouth.
Step 3. Draw an oval vertically under the head, for the neck
Step 4. Draw a large oval under the neck
It will be the body.
Step 5. Draw a long, bent oval, which ends with a small circle for the leg
Around the small circle make another larger one. It will be a nice acorn for the squirrel.
Step 6. On the lower body, draw a large circle and two narrow ovals for the hind legs
Step 7. Draw some kind of question mark on the right side of the body
Here is the fluffy tail.
