Fish fritters are a classic dish from Canada's Atlantic and Maritime provinces. They are known all over the world, and although most people eat them for breakfast, they are also perfect for lunch or dinner.
Ingrediants
- 450 g of cooked fish
- 2 cooked and peeled potatoes
- 2 large eggs
- 2 tablespoons of chopped fresh parsley
- Salt and freshly ground pepper
- 130 g of breadcrumbs
- 1 onion cut into cubes
- Melted butter in the microwave
Steps
Method 1 of 2: Fresh Fish Method
Step 1. Boil the fish in water or milk until it crumbles
Cod is usually used in maritime regions, but some prefer salmon. If you prefer you can also use haddock (or donkey). After cooking, be sure to remove all thorns and scales.
Step 2. Boil the potatoes and peel them
Step 3. Place the fish and potatoes in a bowl and mash them with a fork
Mix the ingredients well until you get a homogeneous mixture.
Step 4. Mix the eggs, parsley, onion and breadcrumbs and pour them into the bowl with the fish and potatoes
Add salt and pepper to your liking. Mix it well.
Step 5. Form 8 flat, round patties
Step 6. Fry them in a pan in butter or oil
Turn them when they turn golden.
Method 2 of 2: Canned Salmon Method
Step 1. Purchase canned salmon (large)
Step 2. Open the can and drain the liquid
Step 3. Add the eggs and breadcrumbs
Mix the ingredients.
Step 4. Make patties and fry them
Step 5. Finished
Advice
- Fish fritters are simple to make and the ingredients are cheap.
- Eat them for dinner served with a nice plate of spaghetti.
- If you want a lower calorie dish, don't use potatoes. They are not necessary and the excellent taste will not be altered.
- Sometimes salmon is preferred because it has a stronger taste; cod tends to be bland (you can still enrich the recipe with herbs, salt, spices, grated cheese, etc.).
- If you eat them for breakfast, put them on toast with fried eggs. Egg yolk goes perfectly with fish fritters.
