Vedic math can be used to multiply numbers in seconds without using a calculator! Here are some quick examples of how this technique can be used.
Steps
Method 1 of 3: Two-Digit Numbers
Step 1. Write the two numbers side by side:
- 97 x 93
- Note: This example only works for two-digit numbers that start with the same number and the second two digits that add up to 10 (in this example the two numbers both start with 9 and have the second digits equal to 7 and 3 which added together give 10).
Step 2. First, let's multiply the last two digits together
In this case:
7 x 3 = 21
Step 3. We place the result on the right side of the solution
You can see that the final answer is of the form xx21
Step 4. Now let's add 1 to the first digit of the first number:
9 + 1 = 10
Step 5. We multiply 10 by the first digit of the second number:
10 x 9 = 90
Step 6. We place the result on the left side of the final solution, and you see that you have quickly calculated the solution of the initial problem

Method 2 of 3: Alternate Method for Two-Digit Numbers
Step 1. Consider two more two-digit numbers that you want to multiply
Keep in mind that the first digits must be the same and that the sum of the second ones must be 10.
98 x 92
Step 2. Above each number, write the difference, or how far each number is from 100
- 98 is -2 from 100, so write -2 above 98
- 92 is -8 from 100, so write -8 above 92
Step 3. Cross-subtract these numbers from the number on the opposite side of the multiplication sign
You will see that the result is the same.
- 98 - 8 = 90
- 92 - 2 = 90
Step 4. Place this number on the left side of the solution
You can see that the final answer is of the form 90xx
Step 5. Multiply the two differences together
2 x -8 = 16
Step 6. Place this number on the right side of the solution, and you can see that you have again quickly calculated the solution to the initial problem

Method 3 of 3: Three-Digit Numbers
Step 1. Consider two three-digit numbers and side by side:
104 x 103
Step 2. Now they are above 100, write how far they are from 100
- 104 is +4 from 100, so write +4 above 104
- 103 is +3 from 100, so write +3 above 103
Step 3. Cross-add these numbers to the number on the opposite side of the multiplication sign
You will see that the result is the same.
- 104 + 3 = 107
- 103 + 4 = 107
Step 4. Place this number on the left side of the solution
