If you are the happy owner of an Xbox 360 console, and you want to fully enjoy the features at your disposal, such as buying new titles or playing with your friends, you will need to subscribe to a gold subscription to the Xbox LIVE service. Follow the steps in this article to connect your console to the web and create an Xbox LIVE account.

Method 1 of 3: Connect Your Xbox 360
Step 1. Choose whether to connect the Xbox to your network via Wi-Fi or via a network cable
The new 'Slim' and 'E' versions of the console have the Wi-Fi adapter already integrated, as well as having an ethernet port for cable connection. Previous Xbox models (Core, Arcade, Pro) are only equipped with an ethernet port, but by purchasing the USB Wi-Fi adapter they can still support connection via Wi-Fi.

Step 2. Connection via Ethernet port
If you choose a wired connection, you will need to use a network cable with which to connect your console to the modem / router. If your home network is set up correctly, this will be the only thing you need to do.

To test the connection, follow this short procedure: Turn on the console. When you see the dashboard appear, press the guide button on your controller (it is the round button in the center of the controller, depicted with the Xbox 360 symbol). From the panel that will appear, select the 'Settings' tab, then choose the 'System settings' item. In the new window that will appear, select the item 'Network settings'. Select the type of connection (Wired Network, Wireless Network), then choose the 'Check Xbox Live Connection' option.

Step 3. Wi-fi connection
If you have purchased the external Wi-Fi adapter, you will need to connect it to the USB port of the console on the back, then change the orientation of the antennas appropriately for signal reception. If the adapter works, its indicator light will be on and green. From the dashboard, press the guide button on your controller. From the panel that will appear, select the 'Settings' tab, then choose the 'System settings' item. In the new window that will appear, select the item 'Network settings'. Choose the connection type 'Wireless Network', then select the name of your home wireless network from the list that will appear.

After selecting the name of your wireless network, you will need to provide the password to be able to connect (only if your wireless network is secured). When you have entered the login password correctly, the console will automatically try to access the Xbox LIVE service.

Method 2 of 3: Setting Up an Account
Step 1. There are two types of subscription to the Xbox LIVE service:
Silver, which is free, and Gold, for a fee. A silver subscription allows you to buy and download titles from the Marketplace and, of course, to consult all the statistics of your Gamertag. If you want to be able to take advantage of the services offered by Xbox LIVE, such as playing with your friends online, using NetFlix and surfing the web directly from the console, you will need to subscribe to a Gold subscription.
Step 2. Set up your account
Press the guide button on your controller and then select the 'Connect to Xbox Live' item. You will need to have a 'Microsoft ID' to be able to create an Xbox LIVE account. If you use a Microsoft service, such as Hotmail or Messenger, the account of these programs can be used as a Microsoft ID.
If you wish to subscribe to a Gold subscription you will need to provide valid credit card details
Step 3. Choose your account name
When you register your Xbox LIVE account, you need to choose a username which will then become your 'gamertag' within the console dashboard. Being a data that identifies you within the world of Xbox LIVE, it must necessarily be unique and must not contain offensive language.
Method 3 of 3: Edit your Account
Step 1. Renew your profile's Gold membership
If you have already subscribed to a Gold subscription to the Xbox LIVE service, it will be renewed automatically at each expiration and the amount to be paid will be automatically charged to the credit card linked to your profile. If, on the other hand, you want to renew your subscription using a prepaid code, you will have to press the guide button on your controller and select the 'Settings' tab from the panel that will appear. Now choose 'Account Management' from the list of options in the 'Settings' tab, then select the 'Redeem code' option and enter the code that appears on the prepaid card you purchased. The duration of the new Gold subscription will be added to the expiration of your current subscription.
Step 2. Cancel an Xbox LIVE Gold Membership
From your computer, go to the website for your Xbox LIVE profile. You will need to log in using your Microsoft ID. Select the item 'My account'. In the center of the page you will find the 'Cancel automatic payment' option to cancel the automatic renewal of the subscription.
