The PSP is perfect for gaming, but using it as a portable media player can be a bit complex. Particularly if you are looking to watch videos online. The PSP browser has some difficulties especially with Youtube videos. If you want to watch your favorite videos online, follow this guide to learn how.
Steps
Method 1 of 3: Method 1: Use a Video Download Site
Step 1. Open your PSP browser
In the address bar, enter "m.youtube.com". Make sure you include the "m", so you'll load the site for browsing from a mobile device. You don't need custom firmware or PSP hacks to use this method.
Step 2. Search for the video you want to download
Not all videos will be available. You will get the best results with videos uploaded before 2010.
Step 3. Move the cursor over the video you want to download
Press the "Triangle" button to open the menu. Select "Address".
Step 4. Press "Start" twice
This will reload the page. Go to a youtube video download site. KeepVid is one of the most popular, and one of the best for the PSP.
Step 5. Use the cursor to select the URL field
Press "Select" three times to bring up the "History" button. Select it.
Step 6. Select the video address
In the timeline, you should see the video address at the top. Select it with the cursor to insert it into the KeepVid URL field.
Step 7. Press the Download button to the right of the URL field
A list of links to the video downloads will appear.
Step 8. Download the "High Quality MP4" file
This is the most suitable format for the PSP. By selecting the link, the file will be automatically downloaded to the VIDEO folder on your PSP.
Step 9. Close your browser
Go to the Video menu of your XMB and scroll through it until you see your memory stick.
Step 10. Select the video
All video files on your memory stick will be listed. Find the file you downloaded and try to play it. If it fails, try downloading it again in another format.
Method 2 of 3: Method 2: Using a Modified PSP
Step 1. Make sure your PSP's modified firmware is updated to the latest version
You will need a modified PSP with custom firmware to use this method. Any version of PSP and PSP Go can be changed.
Step 2. Download a homebrew program for Youtube
These programs can re-encode Youtube videos into a format that your PSP can play, as it cannot normally play Flash files. Two of the most used programs for this purpose are GoTube and PSPTube.
Step 3. Connect the PSP to your computer
Go to the XMB's Settings menu and select "USB Connection". Copy the homebrew software folder to the GAME folder on the PSP.
Step 4. Press the "Circle" button on your PSP
By doing so, it will disconnect from the computer, and you can unplug the cable.
Step 5. Launch the program
Go to the Game menu and scroll down to the item that corresponds to the program you installed. Now press the "X" button to open it.
Step 6. Search for the video you want to watch
Navigation will depend on the program you have chosen. The software will not always be able to re-encode the chosen video, especially for the latest HD Youtube videos.
Method 3 of 3: Method 3: Using PSP2b
Step 1. Open your PSP browser
You don't need any particular browser. Go to the PSP2b website. The site is not very reliable, and may not be available when you try to connect. If this happens, please try again later.
Step 2. Select the link to start the search
Enter the terms to search for in the form or use the drop-down menu to consult the most popular searches. Press the "Search" button and consult the results.
Videos must be converted by the PSP2b service before they become available, so newer videos may not be present yet
Step 3. Download the vLoader file
When you select the video a link will appear at the top of the screen. Use this link to download the vLoader file to your PSP. This file is required to play Flash videos from Youtube.
Step 4. Download the video
Once the vLoader has been downloaded, you will be able to download the video you want to watch. You can choose whether to download the high (High-Res) or low (Low-Res) resolution version.
Step 5. Watch your video
Once downloaded, you will find the file in the VIDEO folder.
