The Green Thunder is back in action! There is a long tradition of Nintendo games where Luigi can be unlocked. Finding Luigi is often one of the toughest challenges in the game, so hone your skills to earn the green costume.
Steps
Method 1 of 3: Unlock Luigi in Super Smash Brothers
Step 1. Find Luigi in Smash Bros Brawl
In the Wii game, Luigi can be unlocked in many ways. Follow whichever one you prefer to unlock the green legend:
- Complete 22 Brawl matches to make Luigi appear, then defeat him in a one-on-one match.
- Complete Classic mode without using 'continue', then defeat Luigi.
- Play the Galactic Emissary mode until Luigi joins your team, near the end of the story.
Step 2. Unlock Luigi in Smash Bros Melee
Complete 800 battles in Vs mode to unlock it. Alternatively, you can try this tricky unlocking method:
-
Play the first level of Adventure mode (the Mushroom Kingdom). Wait for the level to finish and cross the finish line when the seconds reach 2. Your time should be XX: X
Step 2.: XX.
- Luigi will replace Mario in the next level; defeat both opponents before the time drops below 03:00:00. Level 11 has an additional Metal Luigi, but the fight has no time requirements.
- Complete adventure mode without using 'continue', then defeat Luigi again when he appears after the credits.
- If you can't complete the method, set the difficulty to Very Easy and increase your lives to five. If you're having trouble on Normal difficulty or higher, finish in over 18 minutes to avoid an additional boss: Giga Bowser.
Step 3. Unlock Luigi in the original Smash Bros
If you are playing the original Nintendo64 version of the game, play "Bonus Training 1" in Single Player mode. Destroy all targets before time runs out. Repeat with all eight original characters. You will face Luigi with the last character you used and you will unlock him if you can beat him.
The eight original characters are the eight characters in the center of the selection screen: Mario, D K, Link, Samus, Yoshi, Kirby, Fox, and Pikachu
Method 2 of 3: Unlock Luigi in Super Mario Galaxy
Super Mario Galaxy Original
Step 1. Complete the game and defeat Bowser
In the first Super Mario Galaxy of 2007, it is not easy to unlock Luigi. To start, keep playing as Mario until you have at least 60 stars, then ask Rosalina to allow you to take on Bowser. You will have to defeat him in order to continue.
Step 2. Collect all remaining stars
Once Bowser is defeated, a number will appear next to Rosalina, telling you how many stars you still have to collect out of the 120 total. When you have all 120, the number next to Rosalina will drop to 0.
There are many hidden stars in the galaxy. You can follow step-by-step guides or try exploring, crushing, collecting and playing with everything to discover them for yourself
Step 3. Defeat Bowser a second time
After all these efforts, he returns to Rosalina and confronts Bowser again. At the end of the credits, you will unlock Luigi.
Step 4. Play as Luigi
Luigi is faster and more powerful than Mario, but he will start in a new save with 0 stars and nothing unlocked. If you manage to collect all 120 stars again with Luigi, you will unlock a final secret galaxy to face.
Super Mario Galaxy 2
Step 1. Collect about 30 stars
In the 2010 sequel to "Galaxy", Luigi will occasionally appear at the beginning of certain levels, but only when you have around 30 stars. You can talk to Luigi to use him only in that level.
Completing a level with Luigi will cause an extremely fast "ghost of Luigi" to appear each time you visit the level again. Touch the ghost to make it move. There are no rewards if you beat the ghost, but it is a good challenge
Step 2. Defeat the last boss to permanently unlock Luigi
Once the final level of World 6 is completed, a special door will open in the front of Mario's spaceship. Go through the door to unlock the ability to play with Luigi in each level.
Method 3 of 3: Unlock Luigi in Other Super Mario Games
Super Mario Bros 64DS
Step 1. Unlock the second floor
To do this, collect the first eight stars, then go to the cellar and complete the first route of the Big Boo Infestation.
Step 2. Find Luigi's secret painting
In the east (right) part of the second floor, the furthest door leads to an attic. Go to the lower left corner of this penthouse, grab the Fire Flower, go up another level and go through the door. You will find yourself in the Big Boo Challenge.
Step 3. Complete the Big Boo challenges
You can fix them yourself, or follow this guide.
- Go through the doors following the sound of Boo's voice: right, left, right, left. You can collect coins along the way, but it is not necessary to unlock Luigi.
- In the last room, run at full speed and jump across the disappearing platforms. Enter the hole at the end.
- Defeat King Boo by punching him from behind, or by jumping on him three times.
Step 4. Unlock Luigi
The Luigi key that King Boo gives you allows you to go through Luigi's Gate.
Various Super Mario Games
Step 1. Play with Luigi in Single Player mode in New Super Mario Bros 2
First, complete the game with Mario. Then, hold down the L and R buttons while selecting the game file on the selection screen.
Step 2. Unlock Luigi Bros mode in Super Mario 3D World
Completing the game will unlock a mode called Luigi Bros, which allows you to play with two Luigi instead of Luigi and Mario. This mode will also appear if you have a save of New Super Luigi U on your Wii U.
Advice
- When you unlock Luigi in Super Smash Brawl, you will also unlock the stage: Luigi's Mansion.
- In games where you have to defeat Luigi to unlock him, use your best character to do it.
