Have you ever wanted to enjoy a nice DVD movie from the comfort of your home? Don't have a DVD player? Do you have a laptop? Are you tired of watching DVDs on your small computer screen when you own a great TV? Read on to solve your problem.
Steps
Step 1. Find out if your computer has an RCA video output (look for a round yellow connector)
Step 2. Connect the yellow connector of an RCA cable to the output of your computer
Step 3. Connect the other end of the RCA cable to your TV's video input
Step 4. Find where the headphone connector is located on your computer
Step 5. Plug the 3.5mm jack of an audio cable into your computer's headphone port
Step 6. Connect the other end of the cable to your TV's audio input
You may need to use an RCA adapter to split the incoming audio signal for left and right channel. You can buy it at any electronics or computer store, or have it shipped with your laptop
Step 7. To view your computer screen on the TV, you will need to select a key or key combination from your laptop
For example, on some computers you need to press the combination 'Fn + F8'. If you can't find any buttons to use the audio output, go to the 'Settings' tab for the 'Properties' of the desktop. Identifies the section on using an external monitor. Make sure your laptop is set to 'Duplicate' the video signal on the second monitor.
Step 8. Insert the DVD into the optical drive of the laptop
Open the media player of your choice, start playback and have fun!
Advice
- Many laptops do not have an RCA connector video output. Most devices have a VGA video output which requires its connecting cable. Some TV models have a VGA input, otherwise you need to purchase a VGA-RCA video adapter. Both types of video connection cables (VGA-VGA or VGA-RCA) are available in most electronics or computer stores, and can also be purchased online.
- If the video resolution of your computer is not supported by the television, you can change it by selecting anywhere on your desktop with the right mouse button, and then choosing the 'Properties' item from the context menu that appeared. Within the 'Properties' panel, select the 'Settings' tab. At the bottom left of the panel, you should be able to see a slider labeled 'Screen Resolution'. Move the slider to the right or left to select the desired resolution, then press the 'Apply' button. When finished, when prompted, press the 'OK' button.
