It can be useful to reset a Toshiba brand laptop when you want to restore it to factory settings and delete all data. This kind of computer does not come with a rescue disk, but you can proceed with the appropriate partition.
Steps
Method 1 of 2: Windows 8
Step 1. Make a backup copy of all personal data and transfer it to an external USB memory or cloud service before continuing
Resetting the computer deletes all documents and personal files.
Step 2. Turn off the device and unplug any peripherals such as mouse and pen drives
Step 3. Connect it to the power supply
Step 4. Turn it on and press the F12 key repeatedly until the boot menu screen appears
Step 5. Use the directional keys to move between the various options and highlight "HDD Recovery"
Step 6. Press the "Enter" key
By doing so you access the advanced startup options.
Step 7. Click on "Troubleshoot" and then on "Reset"
The computer takes anywhere from 15 minutes to 2 hours to complete the process; at the end it restarts and proposes the initial welcome screen.
Method 2 of 2: Windows 7 / Windows Vista / Windows XP
Step 1. Make a backup copy of all personal data and transfer it to an external USB memory or cloud service before continuing
Resetting the computer deletes all documents and personal files.
Step 2. Turn off the device and unplug any peripherals, such as the mouse, additional monitor and pen drives
Step 3. Connect it to the power supply
Step 4. Press and hold the "0" key and turn on the computer at the same time
Step 5. Release the "0" key when the warning message appears on the monitor
Step 6. Select the operating system that is currently present on the device
For example, if it works with Windows 7, choose "Windows 7".
Step 7. Click "Yes" to confirm that you are aware that the reset process will erase all of your personal data
The restore wizard starts at this point.
Step 8. Click on "Restore to factory conditions" and then on "Next"
Step 9. Follow the instructions as they appear on the screen to complete the procedure
The reset could take anywhere from 15 minutes to 2 hours; at the end the computer restarts and shows the initial welcome screen.
