How to Promote a Home Market on Craigslist

Craigslist is a website where you can post online classifieds for free. The site divides the ads into pages dedicated individually to cities in various countries, where users can publish or consult inserts relating to that specific region. You can post an ad on Craigslist even without creating a free account.

Steps

Step 1. Visit the Craigslist homepage on a browser

If necessary, select the geographic location closest to yours.

Step 2. Search Craigslist for other private market listings to see what other users are posting

Think of ways to improve your post and set it apart from others.

Step 3. Click on "insert

in ads. You will find the link in the upper left of the page.

Step 4. Fill out the Craigslist posting form

• Choose what type of ad you are running. A private market may be listed under "for sale", then "second-hand sale".
• Choose the geographic region closest to you, for example in which part of the country the sale takes place.
• If you wish, choose the city closest to your location. Craigslist allows you to skip this step.
• Provide information on the market. Mention the time, date, and address in the ad title and description. Include a partial list of the items you sell to attract people to participate.
• Choose up to three dates for the event.
• You can choose to hide or show your email address. By hiding it, interested people will not be able to contact you via e-mail, so you will need to enter other contact information to answer questions or comments about the market.
• If you wish, add images to the ad. Click the "add / edit images" button, then "select file" to choose a photo from your computer.
• Submit the form when you have finished all the steps.

Step 5. Check your email and look for the link to the online form that Craigslist sent you

Step 6. Click on the link to make the latest changes to your ad

Step 7. Post your ad

It should appear on Craigslist within 15 minutes.

1. Click "account" on the Craigslist homepage. You will find the button under "insert in ads".

   

2. If you don't already have an account, create one.

   

   • Click the "Create Account" link at the bottom of the "Account" page.

     

   • Enter your email and verification words to pass the security check.

     

   • Click on "Create Account".

     

   • Check your email and follow the instructions on how to complete the account creation.

3. Log into your Craigslist account. Use email and password.

   

4. Select the Craigslist page dedicated to the area where you want to post the ad. You can find it in the menu at the top right of the homepage. Click "Go".

   

5. Fill out the guided form to create the ad. Write the title and information.

   

6. Post the ad.

   

   Advice

   • For the American cities of Boston, Chicago, Los Angeles, New York, Portland, Sacramento, San Diego, Seattle, the San Francisco Bay Area, and Washington, D. C., ads posted on Craigslist are deleted after seven days. For all other cities the ads will remain until they expire or for 45 days.
   • For some particularly expensive items, it may be useful to place a separate ad in the corresponding category with images, in order to attract potential buyers to the sale (and your ad). This allows you to attract people who are not normally interested in flea markets, but who want to buy a specific item in a category, especially if they search by images and not by text.
   • It's the ad content that draws people to your sale! Think about what those who frequent the flea markets are looking for. Mention the most interesting items in the ad, along with those from collectors and the most used ones, such as video games and consoles, CDs, DVDs, designer clothes and sports equipment.
   • Keep the emails Craigslist sends you after you post your ad online. By following the link in the message you can edit the announcement without creating an account on the site.
   • Creating an account on Craigslist is useful if you post ads often and makes it much easier to edit, delete and manage your posts.
   • To make sure you're on the real Craigslist site, type the homepage URL directly into your browser's address bar. Click on "account" to log in.

   Warnings

   • Beware of emails that send you a link to a Craigslist login page and ask for your credentials. They are not legitimate.
   • Craigslist places restrictions on what you can sell on the site and the content of the ads, such as illegal businesses or products.
