This article explains how to prevent advertisements from appearing within YouTube. If you are willing to pay a monthly fee, you can solve the problem by subscribing to the YouTube Premium service which automatically removes all advertisements from YouTube videos. If not, you can install a free extension called Adblock Plus on your browser that allows you to block YouTube ads from being displayed. This extension is available for all internet browsers. You can also use the mobile version of Adblock Plus, which eliminates YouTube ads even when using the browser on your iPhone or an Android smartphone or tablet. If you don't want your audience to see YouTube ads, you can disable them on all videos you post.
Steps
Method 1 of 8: Google Chrome
Step 1. Start Google Chrome by clicking on the icon
It is characterized by a red, yellow, green and blue colored sphere.
Step 2. Visit the web page for the Adblock Plus extension
This is the official page of the Chrome Web Store where you can download and install Adblock Plus.
Step 3. Click the Add button
It is blue in color and located at the top right of the page.
Step 4. Click the Add Extension button when prompted
This way the Adblock Plus extension will be installed inside Google Chrome.
Step 5. Close the Adblock Plus web page when it appears in a new browser tab
It will automatically appear when the extension installation is complete.
Step 6. Watch the YouTube videos you want without being bothered by advertisements
Now that you have the Adblock Plus extension installed, all ads in YouTube videos will be automatically blocked.
Method 2 of 8: Safari
Step 1. Launch Safari
Click on the application icon depicting a blue compass. It is normally visible on the Mac Dock.
Step 2. Visit the Adblock Plus website page where you can download the extension
Use the URL https://adblockplus.org/it/download and the Safari browser.
Step 3. Click on the Safari link
It is displayed within the "Block ads on any desktop browser" section located on the left side of the page.
Step 4. Open the installation file you just downloaded
Click on the arrow-shaped "Download" icon located in the upper right part of the Safari window, then click on the file name of the Adblock Plus extension to open it.
Step 5. Follow the instructions that will appear on the screen
Since the file was downloaded from the internet, your Mac's operating system may ask you to confirm the installation of the Adblock Plus extension before it actually runs.
Most likely you will have to click on the button Allow or Allow from anywhere when asked if you want to install the extension.
Step 6. Close the Adblock Plus web page when it appears in a new browser tab
It will appear automatically when the extension installation is complete.
Step 7. Restart Safari
To allow the use of the AdBlock Plus extension within Safari, the browser must be restarted. Follow these instructions to close Safari:
- Click on the menu Safari visible in the upper left of the screen;
- Click on the option Quit Safari of the menu.
Step 8. Watch the YouTube videos you want without being bothered by advertisements
Now that you have the Adblock Plus extension installed, all ads in YouTube videos will be automatically blocked.
Ads that are placed within YouTube videos will no longer be displayed, but some ads visible within the YouTube site may not be blocked by the extension and therefore still be displayed on the page
Method 3 of 8: iPhone
Step 1. Access the iPhone App Store by tapping the icon
It features a stylized white letter "A" set against a light blue background.
Step 2. Select the Search tab
It is located in the lower right corner of the App Store application.
Step 3. Tap the search bar
It is displayed at the top of the screen.
Step 4. Search for the Adblock Plus app
Type the keywords adblock plus, then press the key Search for of the virtual keyboard of the device.
Step 5. Press the Get button
It is located on the right of the Adblock Plus app icon characterized by a stop road sign, inside which the abbreviation "ABP" is visible.
Step 6. Launch the iPhone Settings app
Press your device's Home button, then tap the Settings icon with a gray cog.
If you're using an iPhone X, swipe the screen up from the bottom to minimize the App Store window
Step 7. Scroll down the menu and select Safari
It is displayed in the middle of the "Settings" menu.
Step 8. Scroll down the list and choose the Content Blocks option
It is visible at the bottom of the "Safari" menu.
Step 9. Activate the white slider next to the "Adblock Plus" extension
It will turn green
Step 10. Watch YouTube videos ad-free
Launch the iPhone Safari browser and visit the YouTube website https://www.youtube.com/ for mobile devices. Thanks to the Adblock Plus app you will be able to watch all the videos you want without the advertisements.
Method 4 of 8: Android devices
Step 1. Access the Google Play Store of your Android device by tapping the icon
It is characterized by a multicolored triangle placed on a white background.
Step 2. Tap the search bar
It is visible at the top of the page.
Step 3. Look for the Adblock Plus extension
Type the keywords adblock plus, then press the "Search" or "Enter" key on the device's virtual keyboard.
Step 4. Select the Adblock Browser app for Android
It is visible at the top of the results list.
The app Adblock Plus that appears in the list only works with the Samsung Internet Browser, but the Adblock Browser for Android app was created by the same company.
Step 5. Press the Install button
It is green in color and located at the top right of the screen.
Step 6. Press the Open button when it is available
It will be displayed when the application installation is complete. This will launch the Adblock Browser for Android app.
Step 7. Press the ONLY ONE MORE STEP button
It is displayed at the bottom of the screen.
Step 8. Tap the FINISH button
It is blue in color and is visible at the bottom of the screen. This will start the app.
Step 9. Visit the YouTube site using the new browser
Tap the address bar visible at the top of the screen, then enter the URL https://www.youtube.com/. The YouTube website will be displayed.
Step 10. Watch YouTube videos ad-free
Any videos you watch using the Adblock Browser app for Android will no longer contain advertisements.
Method 5 of 8: Firefox
Step 1. Launch Firefox
Click on the Firefox icon of an orange fox and a blue globe.
Step 2. Visit the Adblock Plus extension webpage
This is the official Firefox store page of the Adblock Plus extension.
Step 3. Click the ＋ Add to Firefox button
It is visible on the right side of the page.
Step 4. Click the Install button when prompted
This way the Adblock Plus extension will be installed inside Firefox.
Step 5. Close the Adblock Plus web page when it appears in a new browser tab
It will appear automatically when the extension installation is complete.
Step 6. Watch the YouTube videos you want without being bothered by advertisements
Now that you have the Adblock Plus extension installed, all ads in YouTube videos will be automatically blocked.
Method 6 of 8: Microsoft Edge
Step 1. Access the "Start" menu by clicking on the icon
It features the Windows logo and is located in the lower left corner of the screen.
In this case, you need to install the Adblock Plus extension from the Microsoft Store, rather than downloading it from the web
Step 2. Access the Microsoft Store by clicking on the icon
Click on the item Microsoft Store in the "Start" menu.
If the option Microsoft Store is not visible in the "Start" menu, type the keyword store into the menu to make it appear at the top of the results list.
Step 3. Click on the Search tab
It is located in the upper right corner of the Microsoft Store window.
Step 4. Look for the Adblock Plus extension
Type in the keywords adblock plus and press the Enter key.
Step 5. Click on the Adblock Plus icon
It is characterized by a stop sign with the abbreviation "ADB" inside.
Step 6. Click the Get button
It is blue in color and located on the left side of the page. The Adblock Plus extension will be installed on your computer.
If you have already installed the Adblock Plus extension previously using your current account, the button will be displayed Install, instead of the one indicated.
Step 7. Wait for the extension installation to finish
When the "Adblock Plus installed" notification message appears, you can continue.
Step 8. Launch Microsoft Edge
Click on the corresponding icon depicting the letter "e" in white or blue placed on a dark blue background.
Step 9. Click on the ⋯ button
It's located in the upper right corner of the Edge window. A drop-down menu will appear.
Step 10. Click on the Extensions tab
It is one of the options on the drop-down menu that appeared. You will see a list of all installed extensions, including Adblock Plus.
Step 11. Click the Activate button when prompted
This will activate the Adblock Plus extension.

Method 7 of 8: Using YouTube Premium
Step 1. Go to the YouTube Premium webpage
Visit the URL https://www.youtube.com/premium using your computer's browser.
By subscribing to the YouTube Premium service, all advertisements will be automatically removed from YouTube videos that you will watch on any device connected to your Google account (e.g. Windows computer, Mac, iPhone, Android device, Xbox, etc.)
Step 2. Click the Try It Free button
It is blue in color and placed in the center of the page.
- If you have already used the YouTube Premium or YouTube Red free trial in the past with the Google account you are currently using, the button will be displayed in the center of the page Switch to YouTube Premium.
- If you have not yet logged in with your Google account, enter the e-mail address and the corresponding password, then click on the button Try it for free to continue.
Step 3. Provide details of a payment method
Enter your credit / debit card number, expiration date and security code in the corresponding fields, then provide the address for the monthly invoice in the "Billing address" text field.
- If you want to use a payment method other than a credit / debit card, click on the link Add credit or debit card visible at the top of the window, then click on the item Add a new PayPal account and follow the instructions that will appear on the screen.
- If you have already paired a credit / debit card with your Google account, simply enter the security code on the back.
Step 4. Click the Buy button
It is located at the bottom of the window. This way you will subscribe to the YouTube Premium service. The first month is free, after which you will be charged a monthly fee of 11.99 €.
If you had to click on the button Switch to YouTube Premiuminstead of the button Try it for free, the billing cycle will start from the first month.
Method 8 of 8: Disable Ads on Your Videos
Step 1. Find out when to use this method
Follow these instructions only if you want to remove ad videos from videos that you upload to the YouTube platform yourself, to prevent your audience from having to view them. If that's not your goal, refer to another method in the article.
Remember that by removing ads from your videos you will no longer be able to use them to earn money via the YouTube platform
Step 2. Visit the YouTube website
Use the URL https://www.youtube.com/ and your computer's browser. If you are already logged in with your Google account, the main YouTube profile page will be displayed.
- If you are not logged in yet, click on the button Log in located in the upper right corner of the page and enter your email address and password to continue.
- Remember that you will need to use a computer to be able to perform the procedure described in this method.
Step 3. Click on your profile icon
It is a circular icon located in the upper right corner of the page. A drop-down menu will appear.
Step 4. Click on the YouTube Studio option
It is one of the items listed in the drop-down menu that appeared. You will be redirected to the YouTube Studio page.
Step 5. Click on the Video tab
It is listed in the left panel of the page. The complete list of all the videos you have posted on YouTube should appear.
Step 6. Find the video you want to remove ads from
Scroll down the list until you find the video under review.
Step 7. Click on the "Monetization" drop-down menu
It is visible next to the video name. Several options will be displayed.
If the menu in question is not visible, it means that your account is not enabled to earn money through the YouTube platform, so there should be no advertisements in your videos
Step 8. Click on the Deactivate option
It is one of the items listed in the "Monetization" drop-down menu.
Step 9. Click the Save button
It is located in the lower right corner of the page. At this point the advertisements will no longer be visible within the selected video. This means that you will no longer earn any money from viewing the video by YouTube users.
