This article explains how to suspend the storage on your Google account of activities related to browsing the web and searching for content. It should be noted that there is no possibility to disable the local storage of data relating to the history of web browsing when using Chrome. However, you can disable the monitoring of your web activities with your Google account.
Steps
Step 1. Launch the Google Chrome browser on your computer
It features a red, yellow and green circular icon with a blue sphere inside.
Step 2. Click on your profile icon
It features a thumbnail of your Google profile image and is located in the upper right corner of the page. A drop-down menu will appear.
- If you have not set a profile picture, the icon will be characterized by the initial of your name.
- If Chrome, at startup, should display one of the last pages you visited, you will have to open a new tab by clicking on the appropriate button.
- If you are not signed in to Chrome with your Google account, there will be a blue button Log in at the point indicated. In this case, click on the latter and log in to your account.
Step 3. Click on Manage your Google Account
It is a blue button located inside the drop-down menu that appeared. The web page for your Google account will be displayed.
Step 4. Click on the Task Management option displayed in the "Privacy and Personalization" section
The latter is positioned in the center of the "Google Account" web page.
If you do not find the item indicated, click on the link Manage your data and personalization, displayed at the top of the page, then look for the "Use Task Manager" option located in the "Task Manager" pane.
Step 5. Click the Use Task Manager link
This is a blue link displayed within the "Task Manager" panel. The latter is placed in the center of the appeared page. You will be redirected to the "Activity Management" page of your Google account.
Step 6. Disable the "Web & App Activity" slider
When it is active it is displayed in blue, while when it is not active it appears in gray. A pop-up window will appear asking you to confirm your action.
Step 7. Click on the Suspend button displayed in the pop-up that appeared
By doing this, you will confirm that you want to stop tracking your Google account activity. The "Web & App Activity" slider will turn gray. At this point, Chrome will stop synchronizing the data related to browsing history and searches that you will make with your Google account.
