Skype does not make it easy for the user to delete an account, and even if they have the instructions provided by the Skype website itself, they will not help you in solving your problem. The only method currently available to cancel your account is to contact Skype customer service for free online.
Steps
Method 1 of 2: Request Account Cancellation
Step 1. Log in to the Skype customer support website
To do so select this link, you will be directed to the Skype customer support website. Only Skype Customer Support can completely cancel an account. If you want your account to be deleted or you want to report that an account that is not yours refers to you or that someone has stolen your identity, this site is the place to start.
Step 2. Log in
Type in your Skype username and login password to log into the Skype customer support site. If you have forgotten your login password, return to the login page and select the "Forgot your password?" Link, which is placed under the text field for entering the password.
If someone has hacked your account and you can no longer have access to it, follow these instructions to block it. Then fill out the recovery form to regain access to your account
Step 3. Choose the area of your problem
After logging in, you will be asked to provide your reason for requesting help from Skype Customer Support. Choose the category related to your problem. In most cases, for an account deletion request, your problem will fall into one of the following categories:
- Account and Password → Delete an account
- Security and Privacy → Identity Theft / Account Intrusion
- Security and Privacy → Report fraudulent activity
Step 4. Press the Next button
You will see some links related to FAQ answers, but unless you are looking for answers to a specific security issue, this section will not help you. Hit the Next button to be directed to options that work best for you.
Step 5. Select Chat Support
Press the Text Chat Support button to open a new window and be able to chat with a customer support agent. Ask for your account to be completely deleted and give reasons for your choice. Once the operator is available in chat, the conversation should be over in a few minutes.
The account deletion process can take up to 2 weeks. In the meantime, you can delete all your personal information from your Skype profile to make it impossible to contact you
Step 6. Troubleshooting
The Skype community site has had problems in the past. If you get an error message, or if the chat window doesn't appear, try to work around the problem like this:
- Make sure your internet browser settings allow pop-up windows to be displayed.
- Try to choose a different problem category (such as "Security and Privacy", rather than "Account and Password").
- Use a different browser, such as Firefox or Opera.
Step 7. Use a different method to contact customer support
If the chat doesn't work, you can contact Skype by email at the following address [email protected], or fill out this form. By contacting Skype in this way you will receive an answer within 24 hours.
Method 2 of 2: Remove Your Personal Data
Step 1. Use this method to quickly remove your personal information
This way you will not delete your account and you will not be able to change its name, but you will delete your full name, date of birth and all other personal data from your profile, which can be used to track you on Skype.
Step 2. Start the Skype program, then log in to your account
Step 3. View your profile
- From Windows, access the menu Skype, select the item Profile and finally choose the option Edit your profile ….
- On Linux, select yours Skype name and choose the option Edit profile.
- On Mac, go to the menu File and choose the option Edit profile….
Step 4. Delete any personal data
Remove your full name, profile picture, status, phone number, and email address.
Step 5. Only your Skype account name remains
At the end of the previous step, the only data left will be your Skype account name. Other users will still be able to find and contact your Skype account through your profile name.
- Note that you will not be able to physically erase your date of birth. You will simply have to enter a date of birth other than yours.
- Also in case a user has accepted your contact request, you will not be able to remove your account from their contact list. Only he will be able to edit his Skype contact list.
Step 6. Enter a status message
If you have decided to leave a Skype account to open a second one, consider leaving a message in the Personal Data field indicating your new Skype account.
If you have decided not to use Skype anymore, please leave a message indicating that you are no longer active on Skype
Step 7. Disable automatic reload
If you have activated this function you will have to disable it to avoid wasting money unnecessarily.
- Go to your Payment Settings and select the "Auto Top Up" link. You should be directed to the self-top-up page for your Skype Credit.
- Select the link to disable autoloading.
Step 8. Contact customer support
If you have any remaining credit or active subscriptions, you can request a refund from Skype.

- Skype does not provide a telephone customer support service.
- Now all Skype users have the ability to send a message to customer support, a feature that was previously reserved for premium users only.
