This article explains how to view cellular data usage data on iPhone that is calculated from the last time the stats were reset to today's date.
Steps
Method 1 of 2: Using the iPhone's Built-in Counters
Step 1. Launch the Settings app
It is characterized by a gray gear icon placed directly on the Home of the device.
Step 2. Select the Cellular item
It is displayed at the top of the "Settings" menu.
Using some iPhone models you may need to select the option Cellular data.
Step 3. Scroll down to the "Cellular Data Usage" section
Within the indicated section there are two items: "Current period", which takes into account all the data transferred via the cellular data connection from the last time you reset the statistics up to the current moment, and "Roaming current period" which shows the use of the cellular data connection in areas not covered by the network of the operator to which you are bound (for example when you are abroad).
- The "Current Period" counter is not automatically reset based on your carrier's billing cycle. To clear this information, you need to select the option Reset statistics located at the bottom of the page.
- The data traffic consumption of your SIM can be displayed differently depending on the operator in use and the type of subscription you have subscribed to. If the "Current period" option is not present, select the item Usage placed inside the section that shows the name of the telephone operator to which the SIM installed in the iPhone belongs.
Step 4. Scroll down the page to examine the list of apps that used the data connection in the period in question
The list is located within the "Cellular data" or "Use cellular data for:" section. All the apps in the list characterized by a green cursor to the right of the name are authorized to use the data connection of the device.
- The number shown under the name of the application indicates the amount of data traffic that has been consumed by the program in the current period, that is, since the last reset of the statistics to date. Values are expressed in kilobytes (KB), megabytes (MB), or gigabytes (GB).
- If "System services" appears in the "Cellular data" or "Use cellular data for:" section, it means that the data connection was also used by the iOS operating system. Select the item System services to view the list of all operating system features that used the device's data connection.
Method 2 of 2: Request Information from the Telephone Operator
Step 1. Call your carrier's customer service
The data usage statistics of the Settings app show the amount of information that has been transferred over your device's cellular data connection, but not the data limit included in your subscription. It should be noted that the statistics measured and calculated by the iPhone may not perfectly reflect the values recorded directly by the telephone company. You can easily trace the amount of monthly data traffic still available for your tariff plan by calling or sending an SMS to the number provided by your telephone operator:

Step 2. Consider downloading and installing your carrier's app directly from the App Store
Most of the mobile phone operators operating in Italy provide a convenient application to be able to consult all the information relating to their tariff plan, obviously including the data traffic used and the residual one.

Step 3. Contact your carrier's customer service directly
If you have not been able to locate the information you need using the contact methods indicated in the article, the mobile app or the web portal, you can directly call your telephone operator's customer service number. The operator who will welcome you will be able to answer all your questions and indicate the consumption of data traffic for the current month and the remaining one. If you wish, you can also change the rate plan according to your needs.
Advice
- The item "Cellular data use" includes all data that has been transferred while browsing the web, sending and receiving e-mails, using social networks and other apps while the device was connected to the internet via the cellular data connection and not a Wi-Fi network.
- To calculate the amount of data that has been used in a given period of time, select the item "Reset statistics", then check the trend of the consumption of the data connection from this precise moment until the expiry of the period of time of interest to you.
