After signing up for Uber, you will automatically receive an SMS containing a verification number. In most cases, you just need to verify your account by entering this number in the app. If you are asked to verify your payment information with a photo, there may be a security or credit card issue. Learn how to verify your card or phone number with the Uber app and troubleshoot any problems.
Steps
Method 1 of 2: Verify the Payment Method
Step 1. Have your credit card ready
These are rare cases, but you may suddenly be asked to "verify" your payment method when making a booking. This should only happen if there are credit card problems or suspicions of fraudulent activity on your account. Whatever the cause, verifying your account with the app's camera will fix the problem in no time.
Step 2. Place your credit card on a flat, well-lit surface
You need to take a clear and sharp photo of the card.
Step 3. Line up the card with the green "Keep card here" border you see on the screen
When it is precisely within the green box, the app will automatically take a photo.
Step 4. Check the expiration date in the "Expiration" field
The app should automatically fill in the date, but check that it's correct. Click "Done" when finished.
Step 5. If asked, attach identification
Uber may ask for a photo of an identity card or similar document. In this case, place it on a flat surface, as you did for the credit card, then line it up with the green rectangle. As before, the photo will be taken automatically. Click "Done" when finished.
- Once the requested information is attached, Uber will proceed to review your account, taking into account the information you have provided.
- You will receive an email notification regarding the status of the verification. If you need further support, please message Uber support at [email protected].
Method 2 of 2: Verify Your Phone Number
Step 1. Install the Uber app on your smartphone
When creating your account, you must provide a working phone number in order to confirm your subscription. You can create an account by installing the app from the App Store (iOS) or the Play Store (Android).
Step 2. Press "Sign Up" in the Uber app, then enter your personal information
In the fields available to you, enter your name, telephone number, e-mail address and password. Press "Next" when you want to continue.
- If you get the error message "The phone number is already in use", the number you entered is already linked to an Uber account.
- If you have another account, try logging in with that one. If you can't log in, press "I can't change my email address or phone number", then follow the instructions to recover your password.
- If you don't have another account, fill out the form at https://help.uber.com/locked-out to get help from Uber.
Step 3. Check your SMS and wait for the verification code to arrive
Uber will send a 4-digit verification code to the number you provided. You have to enter it in the app, in order to confirm your account.
Step 4. Enter the 4-digit code when prompted
In most cases, the app will automatically ask you for the verification code a few moments after you receive it. When the request arrives, enter the numbers in the appropriate field, in order to verify your account.
If you haven't received the message from Uber, press "Resend" to request another one
Step 5. Enter the 4-digit code when booking the first passage
Some users of the service claim that they have not received any confirmation requests until the time of the first booking. Once you have chosen where to be picked up and the destination, press "Book ride now". You will be asked to enter the 4-digit code you received by SMS.
- If you haven't received the message from Uber, press "Resend" to request another one. Once received, enter the number in the app. This will verify your account and can book rides.
- If you haven't received the code yet, please report the issue to Uber using the form on the support site.
Step 6. Verify your account via email if necessary
If you have not received an SMS with the code, your mobile operator may have blocked the reception of messages called "short code SMS".
- Contact your mobile operator and confirm that "short code SMS" are enabled on your number.
- Log in to the Uber website with your username and password.
- Visit this page of Uber's support site. In the "Phone number" field, enter your mobile number, then click "Submit". Uber will verify your account and contact you after the transaction is complete.
Advice
- Try to remember the expiration date of your credit card, so you don't find yourself using an expired card.
- Never provide your credit card information by email.
