This article explains how to evenly split the cost of a shared Uber ride with other passengers using the application itself.
Steps
Part 1 of 2: Submit a Request
Step 1. Make sure all passengers have an account on Uber and have added a valid payment method
If a passenger does not have an account on Uber, they will be required to download the app and set up an account before they can pay their share
Step 2. Book a ride or invite another passenger in the group to do so
Step 3. Swipe your finger up while running
A page will open showing all the driver's details, travel information and your payment method.
The ride can be split during the ride itself. It is not possible to do this before or after
Step 4. Tap the payment method (found under the ride details) you have set up to view the various options
Step 5. Tap Split Ride
Step 6. Enter the name or number of the person you want to share the ride with
Uber will look for it so you can send an invitation to split the final cost.
Step 7. If the ride is shared by multiple people, add them during this procedure
Part 2 of 2: Accepting a Request to Share a Ride
Step 1. When someone wants to ask you to share a ride, they can send you a message containing a link
Step 2. If you haven't downloaded Uber, tap the link to open your device's app store, download and log in with your account
Do not have an account? You can create one when using the application for the first time. You must enter a valid payment method to accept the request
Step 3. Once the link contained in the message is opened, a window will open that will inform you of the request, indicating the amount to be paid
Each passenger is charged a small surcharge to split the ride
Step 4. Tap Accept
At the end of the journey you will be charged the amount you have to pay.
Step 5. Tap Decline to decline the request
The passenger who sent it will be charged for both their share and yours.
