A high chignon is an ideal hairstyle for those with long or medium hair or who wear braids and can be done for both formal and informal occasions. Find how!
Steps
Method 1 of 8: Easy High Chignon (Neat and Formal)
Step 1. Make a high ponytail and tighten it well, gathering all the unruly hair
Step 2. Divide the hair into two parts
Starting at the base of the tail, turn the locks at the same time following a circular motion around the elastic and not letting the unruly tufts escape.
- Alternatively, turn them several times individually to make it easier.
- If you want a less tidy bun, tease your hair before parting.
Step 3. Twist the hair around the elastic of the ponytail until the bun is finished
Step 4. Secure the bun with bobby pins starting at its base
Afterwards, stop the unruly locks.
Step 5. Spray hairspray, especially if you made a bun for a formal occasion
Method 2 of 8: High Curled Chignon (Messy)
This method is ideal for wavy or curly hair. If you have them straight, curl them before doing it.
Step 1. Gather your curled hair into a high ponytail
Step 2. Pinch the tail tightly
Divide it into two parts. Gently tease each part to add volume and give a disheveled effect. Bring the two strands together
Step 3. Secure the lower part of the ponytail with a bobby pin or two to prevent unruly strands once the hairstyle is completed
Step 4. Roll the tail around the elastic
Step 5. Stop it casually with bobby pins, creating a disheveled faux bun
Step 6. Ready
Method 3 of 8: High Chignon for those with pigtails
This method is fine if you have pigtails and want to put some together to make the bun.
Step 1. Make sure the ends of the braids are tied tightly
Fix the loose ones or those about to melt.
Step 2. Grab a punch of pigtails with each hand
Make sure that the two groups are the same size.
Leave a few free if you want
Step 3. Lift them up and cross them together
Step 4. Bind them and secure them with sturdy bobby pins
You can also use decorative bobby pins, in line with the color or style of the outfit.
Step 5. Repeat the process if you want to make a double bun
Method 4 of 8: Audrey Hepburn High Bun
This chignon is softer, but undoubtedly elegant and enchanting. Inspired by the hairstyle Hepburn wore in "Breakfast at Tiffany's", this style will work best if you get someone to help you.
Step 1. Brush your hair to remove knots and detangle them well
Step 2. Gather your hair on one side
Step 3. With the hair in the back of the head, create a high ponytail and tie it tightly with a rubber band
Wrap the elastic with a small section of hair to hide it and secure it with a bobby pin.
Step 4. Cotton the tail
Step 5. Turn the tail around the elastic loosely and secure the chignon that will have formed with bobby pins
Step 6. Pull the top of the hair back and secure it under the bun with bobby pins
Step 7. Spray the hairspray to make it stay in place
Method 5 of 8: Methods for Thin Hair
Step 1. If you have thin hair, you can use extensions or a bun bun to add volume
Method 6 of 8: = Extensions
=
Step 1. Choose the same color as your hair
If in doubt, ask the seller for advice. You can buy them at a beauty salon or on the internet.
Step 2. Brush your hair to detangle it
Step 3. Attach the extensions
Choose a point between the nape of the neck and the top of the head. Put the extensions under a layer of hair and attach them backwards. Cosmopolitan recommends this method for making a ponytail and then a bun so they won't come off.
Step 4. Create the bun using one of the methods outlined above
Don't pull the extensions too hard.
Step 5. Spray the lacquer:
here is a nice full-bodied chignon!
Method 7 of 8: = Donut for Chignon
= The bun bun is especially suitable for those with thin and short hair. They come in different colors and sizes. You can find them in accessory stores, beauty salons and online. You can also do it yourself with a sock. On YouTube you will find several tutorials.
Step 1. Detangle your hair by brushing it
Step 2. Make a high ponytail
Step 3. Pull the tail through the donut
Step 4. Wrap the tail around the donut
Step 5. Secure the bun you created with bobby pins
Step 6. Secure with lacquer
Stop unruly hair, unless you want a more casual look.
Method 8 of 8: Decorate a High Chignon
Step 1. It is not mandatory to do this, but here are some suggestions:
- Cover the bun with a net, like dancers do. Knitted nets are certainly original, especially if colored.
- Place a clip in the center of the bun.
- Use bobby pins that have flowers or butterflies attached.
- Pull a wand through the bun for an oriental look.
- Wrap the bun with a large bow and secure it.
Advice
- The high chignon is easier to do when the hair is not very clean because the sebum helps it stay in place and there will be fewer unruly strands.
- You should get someone to help you, otherwise, equip yourself with two mirrors or one of the tools designed to create buns, such as the wrap up.
- Undo the knots with a natural bristle brush.
- The bobby pins hold the bun in place, but the hairspray is just as important for this purpose.
- Before you do the bun, you can spread a gel on your hair, but then spray the hairspray anyway.
