While playing Minecraft normally can be great, alone or with friends, from time to time it can be fun to change the rules of the game to break the monotony! Minecraft has many built-in console commands that can allow you to use cheats, plus then find hundreds of "hacks" and exploits that you can download for free from the internet. These tricks are easy to learn and use, so add them to your repertoire now to spice up your game!

Steps

Method 1 of 2: Using Console Cheats

Operate the Console

Step 1. Make sure cheats are allowed

Minecraft has a built-in console feature that allows you to enter cheats as text commands. However, you will need to enable the cheats in your game before you can enter them in the console. There are many ways to do this:

  • In a single player game:

click on the "More World Options …" button when creating your game. On the next page, use the "Allow Cheats" button to make sure the cheats are "ON".

  • In a multiplayer game:

the server host - the person hosting the LAN connection or the person who created the game server - can enable the cheats, in the same way as in single player. In these cases, generally only the host will be able to use the cheats.

  • In some multiplayer games, cheats can be enabled from within the game by moderators ("operators" in Minecraft) and even activated with command blocks.

Step 2. Open the console

Once the game has started, open the console. By default you can do this by pressing "T". You can also press "/" to open the console with a slash already entered - since all commands start with a slash, this is a useful shortcut.

To be clear, the console and the "chat window" that you may have used in multiplayer games are the same

Step 3. Enter the command

There are tons of commands and tricks you can enter to change the game. In the following section you can find a short list of the funniest commands. Note that this list is not complete - it only serves to give you a taste of the console's capabilities.

Step 4. See a complete list of commands for more information

There are many ways to find complete lists of all available Minecraft commands. You can find them on the internet and in the game. Read later:

  • The / help command allows you to display a list of commands to choose from. There are four different pages that you can access by entering a number after the / help command (for example / help3).
  • You can also enter "/" and then press TAB to scroll through all the commands one by one.
  • Finally, you can find the complete list of commands on the internet, on this page of the Minecraft Wiki.

Example Commands

Step 1. Give an item to a player with "/ give [amount]

" Are you tired of being a slave in the mines to find enough diamonds for your armor? Use this command to get what you want right away.

  • Note: The value you enter must be a valid ID of a Minecraft item (see here for a complete list).
  • Example: The command "/ give Marco123 minecraft: iron_pickaxe 10" gives the player Marco123 10 iron picks.

Step 2. Teleport with "/ tp [target player]"

Nothing is more annoying than dying from a creeper that surprises you and having to walk for minutes and minutes to get back to the base you built with your friend on the other side of the map. With this command, you can go back to where you were right away.

  • Note: You can also use "/ tp [target player]" to teleport to specific coordinates defined via x / y / z.
  • Note: If you don't write the target player and just write the destination, you will be teleporting yourself.
  • Examples: "/ tp Marco123 Laura456" will teleport player Marco123 to the position of player Laura456. "/ tp Marco123 100 50 -349" will teleport Marco123 to coordinates 100, 50, -340.

Step 3. Enchant an item with "/ enchant [level]"

Spells are the most difficult elements to obtain, in terms of effort and time of the whole game. With this trick, however, your items will instantly be as strong as you want.

  • Note: You will need to enter the ID of a valid Minecraft spell (see here for a complete list).
  • Notes: Spells are applied to the item the player is holding and only work if the spell is suitable for the item (for example, spells for fishing rods do not work on bows, etc.). The level must be between 1 and the maximum level of the spell; if you don't specify a level, the default level will be 1.
  • Example: "/ enchant Marco123 minecraft: protection" gives the player Marco123 the Protection III spell on the armor he is using.

Step 4. Summons an entity with "/ summon [x] [y] [z]"

Want to do archery training on some pesky Creeper? This command allows you to make animals, monsters and even lightning appear wherever you want.

  • Note: You must enter the valid ID of a Minecraft entity (see here for a complete list).
  • Note: If you don't specify coordinates, the entity will be created on your location.
  • Example: "/ summon Creeper -100 59 450" summons a Creeper at coordinates -100, 59, 450.

Step 5. Change the weather with "/ weather [duration]"

This command is mainly used for aesthetic reasons - with it you can change the climate whenever you want.

Example: "/ weather rain 1000" makes it rain for 1000 seconds

Step 6. Kill players with "/ kill [player]"

If you want to annoy friends or punish a vandal, this command can help you. Be careful though - many players will get mad if you kill them instantly!

  • Note: If you don't specify a player (ie you just type "/ kill"), you will kill yourself.
  • Note: If a player is really annoying, use the command / ban to kick it off the server permanently.
  • Example: "/ kill Marco123" kills the player Marco123.

Method 2 of 2: Using Internet Downloadable Hacks

Step 1. Visit a Minecraft hack site

Minecraft "hacks" - downloadable programs that modify the game - are easy to find. Using one of these hacks is pretty straightforward, but since there are so many, there's no definitive guide that can tell you how to use them. In this section, we'll give you a brief overview of how to get and use a hack. For more detailed information, check out the online resources for the hack of your choice.

A good source of Minecraft hacks is MCHacks.net. There are other good hack sites, but MCHacks.net offers a pretty easy-to-use interface and a plentiful selection

Step 2. Download your hack

On the site, browse through the selection of available hacks and find one you like - usually, you'll find the hack's features on its download page. Download the hack and find it in your downloads folder.

As an example, you can follow these steps by installing Nodus Hacked Client, which allows you to fly, auto dig, move through walls, and more. You can download Nodus here

Step 3. Extract the Zip file

Most hacks are compressed into ".zip" files. In order to install the file, you will need to use a program that can decompress and extract the files. This is pretty straightforward - on wikiHow you can find several articles about programs that can perform these features.

Note that the extraction process will not be the same for every hack. Always read the help or "read me" file included in the download if you don't know how to proceed

Step 4. Move the hack to your Minecraft version folder

Usually, once the hack is extracted, you will need to move its folder to the Minecraft directory. According to the hack you downloaded, this location may vary. See the read me document inside the hack for more information.

  • In the case of Nodus Client, the location to move the hack folder varies according to your operating system:
  • Windows:

    % appdata% \. minecraft / versions

  • Mac:

    ~ Library / ApplicationSupport / minecraft / versions

  • Linux:

    Home \.minecraft / versions

Step 5. Enable the hack at the start of the game

You will need to enable most of the hacks before you start playing. Some also require you to create a new profile, so as always, use the support resources in the hack.

  • To play with Nodus, follow these steps:
  • Open the Minecraft launcher.
  • Select "New Profile".
  • Enter "Nodus 2.0" as the profile name and "release Nodus" as the version.
  • Save your profile.
  • Select your new profile and click "Play".

Step 6. Beware of restrictions on hacks in multiplayer games

When using hacks, it's important to remember that not all people appreciate that you can do things that are impossible for them. Many servers have very strict "no hacking" rules in place. For this reason, you should only play hacks on servers with loose rules that allow the use of cheats and game modifications. Using hacks on vanilla servers is a sure way to get banned and earn the hatred of other players.

Never use hacks intentionally to ruin other players' designs or to annoy them - this is called vandalism or griefing and will get you banned

Advice

  • Use the / toggledownfall command to stop rain or snow.
  • To change the game mode, type / gamemode (followed by a number from 0 to 2). 0 is for survival mode, 1 for creative and 2 for adventure.
  • If you need to explore an area very quickly, use the command / effect [player name] 1 100 100 followed by the command / effect [player name] 8 100 5. This way your character will have a speed level equal to 100 and a "jump boost" level of 5 for a duration of 100 seconds. The "jump boost" allows you to jump directly over hills without losing momentum.

Warnings

  • Many don't like to cheat - make sure the people you share your tricks with also share your way of thinking.
  • Be careful: using cheats and hacks in games where they are banned can get you banned.
