High school: that moment in your school life has come when you may start to get a little nervous, but there is really no reason to worry. As long as you stick to these steps, you'll be ready to go. You will say goodbye to your little middle school and welcome the big moment and the fast pace of high school, which may seem a little scary at first. But eventually you will get used to all of this and then you will be able to enjoy some of the best study years of your life.
Steps
Part 1 of 3: Study
Step 1. Choose a good study space
This will be the place to study, do homework and other assignments, and to complete school work. Whether it's in your bedroom or a table in the corner of the living room, anything will do. Work on the kitchen table / counter or any other base that doesn't need to be moved frequently. If you don't have a seat, ask your parents to get you a desk. High school is the best time to get one.
Step 2. Organize your workspace so that you have all the items you need to accomplish your tasks
You will need these items and it is highly recommended to own them not only because this is appropriate for a good study, but because it is also good for your health.
- Grab a table lamp or desk light and place it on your workbench. This will contribute to the lighting of your study space.
- You may need to go to various stores for this step. Go shopping and pick out some stationery to use just for study time. Try to buy the essential ones: pencils, erasers, pens, white-out (if you write in pen), a ruler and a notepad. You may wish to grab a tabletop storage or something to hold all your stuff. Use the glove box only and exclusively when you study and do your homework, however, because it could cost a lot.
- Buy a plastic chest of drawers. They exist only in the size of an A4 format (length by height) and have a couple of drawers that are ideal for holding tasks and notes. They are also quite inexpensive, so you won't break your budget.
Part 2 of 3: Mentally Prepare
Step 1. Remember, this is high school and you only ever have one chance
Make sure you make the most of it. Don't get sad, but don't overdo the preparation either, because when the time comes, of course, you won't have to run away in fear. Follow these few steps on how to mentally prepare yourself.
Step 2. Think positively when it comes to high school and studying
Thinking negative isn't always good for you, or for the people around you. As we said before, make the most of this opportunity. You will remember high school when you are older, and you don't have to tell your children embarrassing stories that you will regret once they grow up.
Step 3. Learn to accept the truth
Sometimes, this isn't easy. If you want to act well, you will have to learn that things don't always go right in life. You won't always do the right thing and you won't always be the best at everything. A lot of kids, when they get to this point in their life, refuse to listen to the truth because they are obsessed with the idea of having to impress others and have allowed their attitude to prevail over themselves. This is not good, because at that point you cannot improve, while it is okay to get advice. Even if you think it's rude, it's actually quite flattering that someone is helping you, if you look at it with such a perspective. This brings us back to the last step. Think positive and you will be able to walk happily on your way home.
Step 4. Believe in yourself and anything can happen
It's still that old saying, you hear it everywhere, but it's absolutely spot on when it comes to advice. Even though many people don't want to accept it, believe in yourself it works. Think about when you managed to win that prize, or to finish first in that race. You were super proud, not just because you won, but because you believed in yourself. Try it and you will love the results!
Part 3 of 3: Social Life
Step 1. In the spare time between studying and sleeping, at least try to call your friends
Try to contact them when they are not busy or not doing their homework, so as not to upset their plans. Don't be on the phone for more than 30 minutes anyway, as you could accumulate higher charges on your phone bills, which your parents won't be happy with!
Step 2. Break time and lunch in the canteen, if you have one, is the perfect time to talk
Eat and chat together and say everything you weren't able to say during class time.
Step 3. Plan a sleepover with your friends
This is the perfect opportunity to laugh, have fun and even just relax!
Step 4. Don't try to climb the social ladder because you want to build an image
Rather, make lots of good friends who are right for you. Make sure you don't judge or label people, as this won't help your social life at all and you will only end up hurting the feelings of others.
Put yourself in someone else's shoes for a while. Popularity is like a competition to see who is "best" for certain groups. But be nice to popular people, even if they don't like you
Step 5. Try making new friends, but always hang out with old ones too
It is best to make friends who are the same year as you, so you can talk to them in the morning and at lunchtime.
Step 6. Your old friends may start acting weird, don't worry
Simply tell them that you will always be there for them, since they are likely going through considerable changes, just like you. They might have a boyfriend / girlfriend! This brings us to the next step.
Step 7. Try to get accepted into a popular group, but don't rush into it right away
In class, sit next to one of them, or comment on their new hair or sneakers. It may take some time, but they will soon accept you. You might even get yourself a secret admirer!
- Try wearing makeup (if you're a girl). If you don't feel comfortable, leave it alone.
- Don't make fun of people in a bad way. You will make yourself detestable in the long run.
- Wear nice, clean clothes that fit you well.
