Knowing how to achieve and maintain a healthy lifestyle is very important, although in the high school years it can become difficult. Developing healthy habits from adolescence will allow you to carry them on into adulthood. This article tells you how!
Steps
Step 1. Learn to eat healthy
School bar food can be very tempting, but eating pizzas or chips every day is certainly not a healthy habit. Bring your own lunch; this will give you total control over what you eat. If you don't have time to do it in the morning, prepare everything the night before; alternatively, you can buy ready-made foods, as long as they are healthy. Instead of the burger choose grilled chicken with vegetables. Of course it does not mean that you will have to completely abandon pizza and snacks forever, but rather try to limit your consumption whenever you can, for example by establishing one day a month in which to indulge your sins of gluttony. Eat what you want, but in moderation.
Step 2. Exercise beyond the physical education hours
Many think that exercising during PE classes is enough to keep the body in good health. In reality this is not the case, teenagers need at least one hour of physical activity a day. There are many ways to keep fit, for example aerobics, cycling, running, jogging, walking, team sport, dancing, swimming, push-ups, sit-ups, skipping rope or even just walking the dog. Physical activity doesn't have to be an imposition, but part of your lifestyle! For example, while the commercial is on your favorite show you can do some running in place or some push-ups!
Step 3. Get enough sleep
Teens need around 8-9 hours of sleep. If you fall asleep early in the evening, you will have no problem getting up in the morning; you will feel more alert and energetic and you will be able to concentrate better in studying. Try to get at least 8 hours of sleep a night.
Step 4. Drink lots of water
Drinking helps keep you focused and hydrated, allows you to eliminate toxins in your body and is essential for the health and beauty of your skin. Bring a bottle of water to school and keep it in your backpack, or in your locker if you have one. Drink some during intermission. Teenagers should drink at least 8-10 glasses of water a day for proper body hydration.
Step 5. Avoid drugs, alcohol and cigarettes
Stay away from anything that can harm you emotionally and physically, especially when it comes to illegal substances. Don't let your friends sway you and think about your health. In a few years, you will be proud of yourself for making the best decision for your well-being and for your future.
Advice
- Turn exercise into a time to socialize! Go for a run, walk, or bike ride with your friends. This way you can keep fit and also spend time with friends!
- Replace greasy, calorie-dense snacks with healthier alternatives. For example, replace ice cream and creams with good yogurt or eat dried fruit instead of chips.
