While it is usually best to avoid fighting another person, in some cases you may be forced to fight. If you are in a physical fight and cannot escape, you can adopt some techniques to improve your chances of winning. Practice throwing various types of punches to improve your attack and keep your arms high to block your opponent's blows. With a little theory and practice, you will be able to prove yourself in almost any fight.
Steps
Method 1 of 2: Attack
Step 1. Get into an active position so that you can move easily
Place your weight on your toes and bend your knees slightly for quick movements. Turn onto your side, keeping your dominant side further away from your opponent. Keep your hands level with your cheeks so that you can deliver quick punches and defend yourself at the same time.
- In the neutral position you can keep your hands open or make a fist.
- Don't strain your muscles, or you won't be able to move effectively.
- You can also keep the dominant side facing the opponent, but you will have a harder time throwing punches.
Step 2. When punching, close your fingers tightly and keep your hands aligned with your elbows
Bend your fingers to press in the center of the palm with the tips. Try to make the surface of the fist you are going to hit with as flat as possible so you don't get hurt. Keep your thumb under your fingers and push inwards to close your fist even more. Keep the back of your hand aligned with your forearm to lock the wrist.
- Don't put your thumb inside your other fingers, or you risk injuring yourself by throwing a punch.
- Avoid bending your wrist when you hit, otherwise you will lose power and could sprain it.
Step 3. Aim at the vulnerable parts to hurt the opponent more
Weak spots on the face include eyes, ears, and nose. If you want to end the fight quickly, try to hit the parts where you can hurt your opponent the most and make him less effective in combat. If you can't hit him in the face, try aiming for the neck or throat to stun him.
- If you or another person is at risk of health, you have every right to play dirty.
- Try kicking your opponent in the groin or knee so that you can land him quickly and be able to escape.
Step 4. Throw a straight with the arm farther than the opponent
Start by holding your fist at cheek level. As you strike, quickly extend your dominant arm and rotate your palm down. As your arm moves forward, rotate your dominant shoulder forward to add more power to the punch. Aim at the opponent's nose, eyes or jaw to try to stun him.
- Alternate the arms with which you hit the forehand, so that you can land a lot of quick hits.
- Keep your other hand in front of your face to block your opponent if he tries to hit you.
Advise:
exhale quickly as you punch to increase speed and relax your muscles.
Step 5. Practice hooks so your opponent doesn't see the punch coming
Hooks are powerful blows that are pulled sideways to surprise the other person. Aim for the opponent's cheek or jaw when striking. Make sure you lock your wrist and keep the back of your hand in line with your elbow for maximum power.
Raise your hands with open palms to give the impression that you no longer want to fight before throwing a hook with the arm in front of you. This is a great technique to surprise your opponent and stun him
Step 6. Try to stun your opponent with a head butt
If you are very close you may be able to hit him with the head and disorient him. Quickly pull your neck back before slamming your forehead into the opponent's nose or into the space between the eyes. Use the upper part of the forehead, it is the hardest point on the skull and therefore you will feel less pain.
- Warheads are prohibited moves by the rules in many types of combat, such as mixed martial arts.
- With a head butt you can make the other person pass out.
Method 2 of 2: Defend yourself
Step 1. Observe your opponent, in order to anticipate his moves
Always keep your eyes on him, especially on his arms, trying to notice the direction of his gaze. Pay attention to how it moves so you can figure out where it wants to hit you. If you have to look away, do it quickly before staring back at the opponent.
While it is important to always look at your opponent, study your surroundings well as well, so you don't risk being cornered or tripping over something
Step 2. Turn to the side that is hardest to hit
Position yourself so that your non-dominant side of your body is facing your opponent, with your shoulder in front. Keep your chest and hips to the side so the other person has less chance of hitting you. Shift your weight onto your toes to move more easily and dodge blows if necessary.
- Avoid keeping your body perpendicular to the opponent, who otherwise could easily hit you in the chest or abdomen.
- Lower yourself slightly to be harder to hit. However, keep in mind that crouching makes it easier for your opponent to hit you in the face with a kick or knee.
Step 3. Protect your face with your hands and arms to block your fists
Keep your hands high close to your chest, so you will be able to react quickly to your opponent's blows. When you see a punch coming towards your head, raise your forearm in front of your face to block it more easily. Contract your arm muscles to better cushion the impact and avoid getting a direct hit.
- Make sure you always keep your eyes on your opponent as he counters his hits, otherwise he might hit you with a punch you didn't see coming.
- Lower your head towards your chest when you see a punch coming to protect sensitive areas, such as the eyes and nose.
Step 4. Push the opponent to increase the distance between you
Between one punch and the other of the other person or immediately after you have punched one, open your hands and push it with all the strength you have. This can help you recover your optimal position and prepare for the next punch as the attacker tries to recover.
- Try to push the opponent at shoulder or chest height to cause him to lose his balance.
- As the opponent tries to recover, take the opportunity to hit him with another punch and gain an advantage in the fight.
Step 5. To better deflect a punch, try to accompany it with body movement
You won't be able to parry all the shots, so you'll need to take a few. When you are hit, rotate in the direction of the punch to cushion the impact and let the punch slide along your body. Always turn your body away from the blow and not in that direction, otherwise you will hurt yourself even more.
If you can't fully turn around, you can try swinging from side to side to make it harder to hit
Advise:
if your opponent is aiming for the head and you can't move, bring your chin to your chest so that you get hit in the hard part of the forehead. You will still feel pain, but less than a punch in the face.
Step 6. Escape as soon as you get the chance
There is no reason to continue a fight if you are able to escape or end it. When your opponent is stunned or recovering from a blow, take the opportunity to get as far away as possible and not risk hurting yourself even more.
If you need help, scream or ask for help. Contact the police or law enforcement if you are concerned about your safety after the physical confrontation
Advice
- Don't rush and move too quickly as you may lose your breath and fight less effectively.
- Do what you can to stay on your feet when you struggle. If you get knocked down, do what you can to protect your head and avoid worse damage.
