The protective shell is equipment designed to protect the testicles from injury by distributing force over the groin region. There are shells of different sizes for adults and children and of different designs according to the sport practiced. Regardless of type and size, shells are all worn the same way. The only difference is in the clothing you wear, that is, if you wear a jockstrap or special shorts for athletes with a built-in bag.
Steps
Method 1 of 2: With Normal Underwear
Step 1. Choose underwear that is neither too tight nor too loose
- If the linen is too tight, it will not be able to hold the clamshell in place which could put itself in a position to irritate you.
- Excess material under the shell could also compromise its placement.
Step 2. Put a jockstrap on your underwear
- The jockstrap should have hold everything in place comfortably.
- Bend over, do a squat and a few moves to make sure everything stays in place and doesn't bother you.
Step 3. Slide the clamshell into the jockstrap holder
- The shell must rest on the groin region and completely cover the testicles.
- If the shell doesn't cover them entirely, use a larger one.
Step 4. Bend over, do a squat and a few movements to make sure everything stays in place and doesn't bother you from rubbing against your thighs
Testing the shell with movements is the best way to verify correct positioning
Method 2 of 2: With Sports Underwear
Step 1. Wear the jockstrap before sports underwear if you are using shorts that do not have a built-in pouch
For laundry with built-in pouch, skip this step
Step 2. Choose tight-fitting shorts or sports underpants that aren't too tight or too loose
- As with normal underwear, the aim is to keep everything in place without problems or hassles.
- Bend over, do a squat and a few moves to make sure everything stays in place and doesn't bother you.
Step 3. Slip the shell into your sporty underwear or tight shorts
- If the shorts don't have a built-in pouch, slip the shell into the jockstrap pouch.
- The shell must rest on the groin region and completely cover the testicles.
- If the shell doesn't cover them entirely, use a larger one.
Step 4. Bend over, do a squat and a few movements to make sure everything stays in place and doesn't bother you from rubbing against your thighs
Advice
For added support, wear spandex pants or shorts over your underwear and shell
Warnings
- Avoid flat shells. A curved shell is more comfortable and anatomically correct. Make sure it is comfortable and does not sting, otherwise you will need a larger shell.
- Do not use padding with the shell. Padding could compromise the even distribution of impact.
- Make sure the shell is snug against the body. A loose shell could cause you severe testicular pain in the event of an impact and more damage than in the absence of a shell.
- Wear the clamshell harness / jockstrap on your body and not on fabrics such as cotton or thick underwear. The linen underneath could create difficulties in positioning the shell well. If you want to wear something underneath, put on fine nylon / polyester or elastane underpants.
- You should be aware that some sports shorts with a built-in pouch do not hold the neck firmly in place. Wear tight shorts over the shell and jockstrap to keep it in place.
