Putting the headband on your nose is a fairly delicate procedure, but with a little practice you will get used to doing it casually. The steps to follow vary depending on the type of ring you will choose.

Steps

Method 1 of 3: Closed Loop from a Ball

Step 1. Remove the ball

Grab the ring from both sides that support the ball. Gently pull them in opposite directions. The ball should fall by itself once the ring has been opened.

  • In this type of piercing, in fact, the ball is simply supported by the pressure exerted by the ring. When the pressure is released, it drops automatically.
  • Avoid pulling the ring too hard, as doing so may loosen it and you may not be able to insert the ball again.
  • If the ring is thin you can do this with your fingers, but for larger and thicker rings it may be more difficult. If you can't, help yourself with special pliers. Just squeeze one end of the ring with the pliers and the other with your fingers, bend and twist the ring.

Step 2. Turn the ring

As soon as the ball falls off the ring, turn your right hand clockwise and your left hand counterclockwise, so that the ring rotates in a semi-spiral.

Rotate the ring just enough to fit your nose piercing. If you rotate the ends of the ring too much, you may find it difficult to return them to their starting position

Step 3. Place the ring inside your piercing

Insert one end of the ring into your nose piercing. Gradually push the ring into the hole until the tip reaches the outside of the nostril.

Step 4. Insert the ball back into the circle

Pin one side of the sphere to one end of the ring. Rotate the two ends slightly towards each other until they are perfectly aligned and the sphere will snap to the second end.

  • The ball should have two small cavities on both sides. Insert the ends of the ring into these two small cavities to reposition the ball correctly.
  • Once inserted correctly, the ball ensures a secure anchorage of the ring to the nose.

Method 2 of 3: Seamless Ring

Step 1. Rotate the ends of the ring

Locate the crack on the ring and grab both sides with your fingers. Move your right hand clockwise and your left hand counterclockwise to pull the ends of the ring from opposite sides.

  • Rotate the ring until you have enough space to fit it into the nose piercing. Do not rotate the ring more than necessary, as you may loosen it and it will be difficult to get it back to the starting position.
  • Do not pull the ends of the ring sideways, as it will be almost impossible to get it back to the starting position.
  • The smaller the gauge - 22, 20, 18 - the easier it will be to handle the ring. However, it is necessary to use both hands to rotate the ring and not a set of pliers, as these may distort the shape of the ring.

Step 2. Slip the ring into the piercing

Insert one of the open ends of the ring into the piercing hole. Insert the rest of the ring inside the hole, sliding it until it reaches the opening of the nostril.

Step 3. Close the ends

Rotate the ends of the ring towards each other with your fingers until they connect again.

  • Make sure the ends are as close together as possible to secure the ring and prevent them from scratching your nose.
  • Once this step is done, the nose band should be securely attached.

Method 3 of 3: Segment Ring

Step 1. Push the segment to the side

Hold the ring with the segment positioned at the top. Grasp the segment with the index finger and thumb of one hand, while supporting the bottom of the ring with the other hand. Gently push the segment to one side until it pops out.

  • The segment, in fact, is supported thanks to the pressure exerted on the tips. By pushing it to the side, you release the tips and release the pressure, making it easier for the segment to pop out.
  • Do not try to extract the segment directly. Rotating the segment and ring sideways causes a slight opening, relieving the pressure exerted. If you try to remove the segment without releasing the pressure first, you could break the tips.

Step 2. Place the ring inside the piercing

Push one end through the hole until it reaches the outside of the nostril.

Step 3. Reinsert the segment into the ring

Push one end of the segment over the end of the ring and at the same time rotate the other end sideways. Once the segment has been fixed at one end, rotate the other not yet fixed end towards the segment and reposition it correctly.

  • You will need to widen the opening slightly to be able to reposition the segment. Otherwise, it will be almost impossible to hang it up correctly.
  • Rotate the ring sideways as you widen the opening. Don't pull it, as you may twist it. Ditto for the ends, do not pull them more than necessary.
  • It is more difficult to reposition the segment than it is to extract it. Smaller gauges make this easier, try a 20 or 18 gauge. For those of 16 or 14, you may need to use piercing pliers.
  • Once the segment is repositioned, the headband will stay firmly on your piercing.

Warnings

  • Always clean the ring before wearing it to prevent infections. Soak it in a saline solution made with 1.2ml of salt and 250ml of warm distilled water for 5-10 minutes. Alternatively, you can clean the ring with a cotton swab dipped in this solution.
  • If you use tongs, clean them first. Soak a cotton ball in a bought or homemade saline solution and rub the tongs vigorously.
  • Also clean the piercing. Even if it is cured, it should be cleaned periodically with a mild antiseptic, such as benzalkonium chloride or liquid antibacterial soap. This will further reduce the risk of infections.
  • Do not wear the headband over a recently made piercing. You must leave the earring with which it was made for at least eight weeks in the piercing. After that you can remove it, although you will have to wait up to 12-24 weeks for complete healing and you should avoid wearing nose rings.
