Flower headbands are spreading all over the world. Many movie stars wear them, we can see them in many magazines and they begin to be seen also in TV series. This feminine floral accessory has been worn by Taylor Swift, Selena Gomez and many other celebrities (not to mention how popular they are at music festivals). Floral headbands are pretty accessories, yet very simple, and anyone can easily build one for themselves.

Steps

Part 1 of 2: Shaping the Headband

Step 1. Prepare the supplies

Instead of buying the cable tie at a store, making your own is easy, quick and inexpensive. For this DIY project, you will need:

  • 1 elastic about 6 inches thick that is thick enough (available at every craft store)

    If you already have a hair band, you can use that

  • Fake flowers (these are also available at any craft store);
  • Professional hot glue gun (you can also use E6000 glue or super glue);
  • Scissors

Step 2. Measure the length of the band

Place the elastic around your head and once you find the right length, hold the point with your fingers. Remove the elastic from your head and cut it with scissors at the point you marked with your fingers.

  • If you already have a headband, skip this part;
  • You can choose the color you prefer; whether light or dark, the result will still be excellent.

Step 3. Shape the headband

Use the hot glue gun (or other type of glue) to apply the adhesive to one end of the elastic. Join the two ends, making them fit together. Press the two sides for at least 10 seconds. When the glue has dried, you will have the band you need.

Make sure the elastic is not twisted when you put the two ends together, otherwise the flowers will also intertwine when you go to glue them

Part 2 of 2: Add the flowers

Step 1. Take the fake flowers and peel them off the stems

You should be able to do this with ease. At the bottom of the flower you will find a small green stem (this is used to hold the flowers together with the longer stems). Cut off the smaller stem under the flower so that the surface underneath remains flat.

You can decide to leave the flowers whole or to divide them so that the different layers of petals are exposed

Step 2. Glue the flowers onto the band

If you have decided to leave them as they are (so whole), apply the glue to the back of the flower with the hot glue gun. Then, place the flower on the headband and press for at least 10 seconds. If you have decided to divide them to show the petals, it is best to apply some glue on the band and then attach the petal. Press and hold the petal for at least 10 seconds. Space the flowers as much as you like and add more until you are happy with the result.

If you are not using the hot glue gun but a different type of glue, it is better to apply it first to the flower and then place it on the band. It will create less mess

Step 3. Give the glue time to dry

If you used a hot glue gun, it should dry in 30 minutes. If you have used E6000 glue or super glue, wait at least a day to prevent something from peeling off when you try to put on the headband.

Advice

  • You can purchase floral pieces created exclusively for fabric bands at craft stores.
  • To cover the headband, place the fake flowers so that the petals overlap each other.
