If you want to treat yourself to a fairytale bath, try using bath salts. You can buy them or make them at home by mixing the ones you prefer. You can use them alone, but also mix them with dyes or essential oils to make them fragrant. If you want to discover other possible uses, try them in the shower or to exfoliate. Store them in an airtight container and use them whenever you feel the skin tighten.
Steps
Method 1 of 3: Pour the salts into the bathtub
Step 1. Choose your bath salts
You can buy them or make them at home. Most bath salts are made using Epsom or Dead Sea salts. You can also look for products containing pink sea salt, dendritic salt, or iodobromic salts. The salts are available in different consistencies: fine, containing grainy or coarse. Choose the ones you prefer.
To prepare a quick and easy bath, you can use normal Epsom salts free of dyes and fragrances
Step 2. Fill the bathtub halfway and add the salts
Close the tub drain and let the hot water run, adjusting it to the temperature you prefer. Half-filled the tub, pour in about ½ cup (120 g) of ready-to-use salts. You can add more if you want to get a stronger focus.
To take a therapeutic bath, try using 1 or 2 cups (250-500g) of Epsom salts. Their high magnesium content helps fight muscle aches
Step 3. Shake the salts in the water
Shake the water in the bath with your hands to allow the salts to dissolve. Fine salts dissolve earlier than coarse ones.
Step 4. Let the water run again
Turn on the hot water tap and fill the tub to the point you want. Put your hand in the water to check the temperature, which should feel pleasant on the skin.
Step 5. Soak for at least 10 minutes
Enter the tub and inhale the steam as you soak. To maximize the benefits of the salts, try to stay in the tub for at least 10 minutes. Soak for as long as you like, then reopen the drain.
- Ask your doctor how often you can use bath salts, especially if you have certain medical conditions.
- If the salts contain oils, be careful when getting out of the tub, as they will make the surface slippery.
Method 2 of 3: Using Bath Salts in Other Ways
Step 1. Take a cleansing bath
To take a specific purifying bath to expel toxins from the body, use Epsom salts. Epsom salts contain magnesium and sulfate, which remove heavy metals from the body and accelerate skin healing. Dissolve 1 to 3 cups (250-720g) of Epsom salts in hot water and soak for 10 to 40 minutes.
Step 2. Use Espom Salts to treat muscle aches
Pour up to 2 cups (500g) of Epsom salts into the hot water and shake them to dissolve. Let the sore muscles soak for at least 15 to 20 minutes. The magnesium of Epsom salts promotes good muscle relaxation.
Try adding 15 drops of essential oils that are effective in relieving muscle pain. Here are some examples: Canadian tea, basil, bergamot, rosemary, lavender, peppermint, and Douglas fir
Step 3. Combat skin inflammation and irritation
If you suffer from conditions such as psoriasis, rashes or eczema, prepare an Epsom salt bath. The magnesium in the salts is effective in reducing inflammation and relieving itching. Fill the tub completely and dissolve 1 or 3 cups (250-720g) of Epsom salts. To reap the full benefits, let the irritated skin soak for at least 20 minutes.
Upon exiting the bathtub, the skin must always be hydrated to maintain an adequate hydrolipidic film
Step 4. Mix the salts with a shower scrub to exfoliate dead skin cells
Measure 1 cup (250 g) of Dead Sea salts and pour them into a bowl. Mix them with 80-120ml of your favorite oil (such as sweet almond, coconut, grapeseed or olive oil). Add 12 drops of essential oils and 1 teaspoon (5 ml) of vitamin E oil. Mix the mixture until you have a thick paste that allows you to exfoliate your skin in the shower. Rinse it and you will see that the skin will become super soft.
The scrub can be stored in an airtight plastic container. When you open it in the shower, make sure no water gets into it, otherwise you risk contaminating it with bacteria
Step 5. Prepare a foot bath to relieve sore feet
If you don't have the time or space to take a bath, pour hot water into a large basin and fill it three-quarters full. Add ½ cup (120g) of Epsom salts until dissolved. Sit down and let your feet soak for 10 minutes.
Avoid taking bath salts if you have diabetes. Soaking your feet can dry them out and cause cracking, increasing the risk of your skin becoming infected
Method 3 of 3: Improve the Experience
Step 1. Add dyes to the bath salts
If you want to make a colorful bath, mix a few drops of liquid or gel food coloring with 1 ½ cup (360 g) of bath salts. Use only a few drops of the product, so as not to dissolve the salts. Gradually add more and mix until you get the desired shade.
If you are preparing different types of colored salts, keep them in separate containers, as the dyes can mix with each other during storage
Step 2. If desired, add essential oils
If you are using fragrance-free Epsom or Dead Sea salts, add 6 to 12 drops of your favorite essential oil for every 1½ cup (360g) of bath salts. Since essential oils are particularly concentrated, start with a small amount and increase the doses as needed. Use one type of essential oil or mix several to treat skin or improve mood.
- For example, if you want to make an energizing bath, use grapefruit, bergamot and peppermint essential oils.
- If you have acne-prone skin, add a few drops of tea tree, geranium, or lavender essential oil.
Step 3. Add baking soda to soften the skin
Pour 45-180 g of baking soda into the bathtub - it should dissolve quickly. Soak for 20 to 30 minutes and be careful when getting out of the tub, as baking soda can leave residues that make the surface slippery.
Baking soda is effective for softening the skin and removing chlorine from the water
Step 4. Mix the bath salts with a handful of herbs
Measure out 2 tablespoons (3-4 g) of your favorite dried herbs and add them to 3 cups (720 g) of bath salts. You can use effective herbs to improve mood, perfume water, or treat certain conditions. Mix the salts with one of the following herbs:
- Lavender;
- Mint;
- Rosemary;
- Chamomile;
- Rose petals.
