Commercial sunscreen products often contain propylene and other chemicals that could be harmful to your health. Natural products, on the other hand, are very expensive because they contain tropical oils to make the cream fragrant. In addition, many products are tested on animals.
If you need something inexpensive, which protects you from the sun's rays, try this recipe.
This recipe is for 325ml of cream.
Steps
Step 1. Heat a cup of olive oil on a low temperature
Step 2. Add 30ml of chopped beeswax if possible (so it melts quickly)
Beeswax can also be grated to save even more time. You can also buy it directly in pearls.
Step 3. Stir constantly until the wax melts and blends completely with the hot oil
Step 4. Wear gloves and a mask to protect yourself from powdered zinc oxide
Add 1 to 2 tablespoons of powdered zinc oxide (USP grade). Add it little by little while continuing to mix well. Make it mix well.
Step 5. Remove the mixture from the stove
Pour it into a glass or ceramic jar with a lid.
If the jar / bottle has a narrow neck, insert the cream with a pastry bag
Step 6. Allow it to cool to room temperature before use
Store it in a cool, dry place away from heat sources. Write the date and contents on a label.
Advice
- Try using other edible natural oils. Anything you can eat you can also apply it to the skin.
- If you can't find beeswax and zinc oxide in local stores, you can buy them on the internet.
- Beeswax makes the finished product thick, like face cream. If you want, you can change the proportions of the oil and beeswax.
- If you can't find the ingredients, buy zinc oxide at the pharmacy. It is this substance that makes the product effective.
- However, titanium dioxide might be fine.
- If you wish, add a few drops of essential oil for a pleasant scent. Check the properties first and if it is suitable for sun exposure.
Warnings
- Keep it away from heat sources as it may melt. Keep it in the fridge.
- It is better to use tools that you will no longer use for food. Keep them away from other kitchen tools.
- It may happen that the oxide is deposited when the product cools down, for example, when passing from the refrigerator to warm environments. If it is transparent when you are applying it, mix the cream trying to bring the oxide deposited on the bottom to the surface. If you don't, the cream will not be effective and will only give you a fake feeling of protection. A good cream must be opaque.
- Zinc oxide can be dangerous to health. Avoid breathing the dust and always use the mask when preparing the cream.
- Keep the product away from curious children and pets. The product is NOT edible.
