With a roll pillow you can add an extra touch to the decor of your living room or even decorate a guest room. It is a cylindrical shape often used to provide back support. You can also choose to hug your pillow when you sleep. Once you learn how to do it yourself, it will take you an afternoon with a needle and thread to have a new decorative pillow on your bed that same evening. You can use a polyester padding to make the pillow softer or fill it with an old towel to make it harder.
Steps
Method 1 of 3: Train the Leaders
Step 1. Fold the fabric in half, with the right side towards the center
Place a can of paint on top of the fabric, near the bottom end. Trace the outline of the tin with a fabric marker.
-
Cut 2 pieces of fabric from the line you drew. In this way you will have 2 circles that will be the ends of your decorative pillow.
Step 2. Sew a row of long stitches around each circle
They should be 1.27cm away from the edge. This will be the attachment that will connect the tube at the ends.
Step 3. Make cuts along the edges of each circle of the roll pillow, at a distance of 1.27 cm from each other, for the entire circumference
Cut to the dot line but don't cross it. Eventually the cut edge will make it easier for you to sew the pillow together
Step 4. Find the circumference of the 2 circles by measuring the diameter
This can be done by multiplying the diameter of the circle by 3, 14. This measurement is used to calculate how much fabric you need to cut to make the center of your pillow.
For example, if the diameter of the circles is 12.7cm, the circumference will be 28.9cm, or 12.7x3.14
Method 2 of 3: Form the Body
Step 1. Cut a rectangle of fabric
Use the circumference plus 2.45 cm (to be able to sew) and that it is 60 cm long.
Step 2. Fold the rectangle in half lengthwise, with the right side towards the center
Pin the 60 cm sides together.
-
Sew the pillow along this 60cm edge, 1.27cm from each end, forming a tube.
Step 3. Pin the edges of one of the circles to the edge of the fabric rectangle
The side with the seams must be on the outside while you attach the pins.
Step 4. Attach a long row of stitches on the circle to collect the fabric
In this way it will be the right size to fit inside the round edge of the rectangle. Otherwise you will have excess fabric on the sides of your pillow.
Step 5. Start sewing the circle to the edge of the rectangle
Use a row of long stitches on the fabric to guide you as you sew, which will then be hidden once the decorative pillow is finished.
-
Repeat the process with the second circle if you are using polyester padding.
- Don't sew the second side entirely! Leave an opening of 7.62 cm so you can add padding to the roll pillow.
Method 3 of 3: Shape It
Step 1. Fold the towels so they are 60cm long
This is in case you want to use them. Ready-made pillow-to-roll shapes are also available and can be easily replaced. Just make sure they are the right shape and size.
-
Roll up the towels so they are the same diameter as the decorative pillow.
Step 2. Turn the cushion fabric inside out
Tuck the rolled-up towels into it. Make sure they hold their shape or you'll end up with an uncomfortable, bumpy pillow.
Step 3. Hand sew the second circle of the cushion, making sure to hide the hems
Turn the fabric of the pillow inside out if you are using the padding.
-
Fill the roll pillow with the padding and close it by sewing the hem by hand!
