If you pay for every SMS you send, send them all over the world, or prefer to type on your PC instead of your mobile, it will be useful to know how to text over the Internet. Here's how to do it.
Steps
Method 1 of 12: Email
Step 1. Find out which company is using who is to receive the SMS
Step 2. Compose an email with the SMS you would like to send
Step 3. Send it to that company's SMS portal
Here are some examples from the complete list that you will find at the bottom of the article (valid for the United States):
- Sprint Nextel: [email protected] ([email protected] for MMS)
- T-Mobile: [email protected] (SMS and MMS)
- Verizon: [email protected] ([email protected] for MMS) (limit of 150 characters).
- Cricket: [email protected] (SMS)
- Credit: [email protected] (SMS)
- ATT: [email protected] (SMS) or [email protected] (MMS)
- If you don't know the provider you can send it to all portals. Your SMS will only be delivered to the recipient's inbox based on their number which is unique.

Method 2 of 12: Instant Messaging
Step 1. Some instant messaging services such as AIM And Yahoo! Messenger, allow you to send instant SMS to your mobile.
With AIM, you can add +1 to the recipient's number. For Yahoo! Messenger, type the number in the text box at the top of the window and hit Send.
Step 2. Gmail's built-in chat allows you to write SMS
To use it, click 'Tools' then scroll down to "Text Messaging (SMS) in Chat" and click Enable. Scroll down to the bottom of the page and press Save. Now open the chat window. Click on the Options at the bottom left and choose Send SMS. You will be asked for your mobile number. Currently this service only works for US cell phones.
Method 3 of 12: Skype
Step 1. Download Skype
Step 2. Create an account
Step 3. Buy Skype Credit
Step 4. On the menu choose Tools> Send SMS
Step 5. Choose the recipient or enter a number
You can send an SMS to any Skype contact who has added their mobile number to their profile. You can send the same message to multiple recipients but each will pay individually.
Step 6. Send the SMS
At the bottom of the page it will be written how much each message costs. Check it out before submitting!
Method 4 of 12: Telephone Company Sites
Step 1. Go to the recipient's company website
Step 2. Look for a screen that allows you to send an SMS to one of their numbers
You may be asked to register. Go to the site search box or Help section and type "Send SMS".
Method 5 of 12: Free Online Services
Step 1. Find a website that allows you to send SMS for free
This method does not require any download or setup on your part but more likely you will need to sign up. Example:

Method 6 of 12: Remember Me Service
Step 1. There are sites that allow you to schedule SMS to remember something (for yourself or someone else) for free
They require no setup or downloads from you but you will likely need to sign up. Examples:
