Communicating in an increasingly virtual world can be fun and scary at the same time. Even though most people appreciate anonymity, it's really hard to maintain it. If you would like to send a message, but remain anonymous, there are a few ways to do it. Read on to learn how.
Steps
Method 1 of 4: Using an Email Account
Step 1. Create a new email account
Do not use your personal account, as the recipient will be able to see your personal information (name, email address, etc.). Instead, choose a free provider (Google, Yahoo, etc.) and create a new account, without entering any personal information.
Step 2. Get the phone number of the person you want to write to
Make sure it's the right number.
Even if you're sending an email, you'll need the person's phone number as part of their email address
Step 3. Find out the person's operator
The person you want to write to will have an operator such as TIM, Tre, Vodafone or others. All these operators allow you to send a message to a person's phone number via email. To find out the person's operator, you can ask the person directly, or try an internet search:
Step 4. Combine the contact's phone number with their carrier
In other words, you'll be composing an email that will reach the person's phone and not their email account. Just write the person's number (without dashes or spaces), then have it followed by the domain of the specific operator:
- TIM: telephone [email protected]
- Vodafone: telephone [email protected]
- Three: [email protected]
Step 5. Compose a new email from your new account
Once you've gathered all the necessary information about the person you want to write to, log in with your new account and compose an email. Enter the person's phone number and corresponding operator domain from the above list as the address. Then, hit "Submit".
- To make the email look more like a real text message, leave the Subject field blank.
- Your contact will receive an anonymous message.
Method 2 of 4: Using an iPhone App
Step 1. Choose an app for your iPhone
While there are no iPhone apps that can mask your real phone number, there are many apps that can create a new fake number to send messages from. The following list offers some application examples.
- Pinger
- TextPlus
- TextNow
- Burner
- Wickr
- Backchat
Step 2. Open the App Store
Look at the bottom right and press "Search".
Step 3. Type in the name of the app you have chosen
Or, do a general search by typing "anonymous messages": you will find different results. Press the app you have chosen, then click on "FREE" (almost all of them are free), then on "Install".
Step 4. Enter your Apple ID and password
After pressing "Install", the system will ask you to confirm your password. Enter it in the appropriate field. Then, press "OK".
Step 5. Press "Open"
Once the app is installed, press "Open". You will be prompted to log in or sign up. Click on "Sign up", then enter the phone number. Remember that you will need to enter your real phone number in this step. You will likely receive a message from the app with a confirmation code. Upon successful registration, the app will ask you to create your new fake number - or the app can assign you a random one.
Remember that some applications, such as Burner, are free, but require you to purchase credits to send anonymous messages
Step 6. Send your message
Once the app is configured, just write a message from its interface. Enter the contact's phone number and press "Send".
Your contact will receive an anonymous message
Method 3 of 4: Using an Android App
Step 1. Choose an app for your Android device
You have a few options to block your phone number and still send messages from your Android phone. Below you will find the list of possible options.
- Anonytext
- Anonymous Texting
- Private Text Messaging
- Anonymous SMS
Step 2. Open the Google Play Store
Press the Google Play icon, then press the three horizontal lines in the upper left corner of the screen. Press on the Store Home.
Step 3. Press the "Search" icon
Look in the upper right corner and hit the search icon. Then, type in the name of the app you chose. Or do a general search by typing "anonymous messages".
Step 4. Choose an anonymous messaging application
Once you have made your selection, click on the app you want to download. Some are free, others are paid.
Depending on the cost of the app, you can click on "Install" or on the purchase price
Step 5. Open the app
Once the app is installed, just open it. Some offer free messages, while others require a fee to start using messaging services.
Step 6. Enter the contact's phone number
Press the option to start typing, then type the contact number. Write your message, then press "Send". Almost all applications are very simple to use and will guide you through the steps required to send messages.
Your contact will receive an anonymous message
Method 4 of 4: Use Sites That Allow You to Send Anonymous Messages
Step 1. Choose a site that allows you to send anonymous messages from the web
You can perform a simple web search by typing "anonymous messages" or "free anonymous messages". Here are some sites that might be right for you.
- https://smsanonymous.herokuapp.com/ (Australian phone numbers)
Step 2. Read the rules of the website you have chosen
The rules often prohibit using the service to commit scams, stalking or other crimes. Other rules may include rates, frequency of use, privacy, and other issues.
- Some free messaging services have been shut down due to abuse. Check that the service you are using is still active and pay particular attention to its Terms of Use.
- Consider that these services have the ability to trace you thanks to your IP address. In other words, if you use them illegally, you will be identified.
Step 3. Enter false sender information if prompted
Some services require you to enter a phone number, but you won't have to do this in all cases. If you have to come up with a fake number, make it plausible by entering an operator prefix, followed by 7 digits. If you don't care, you can also choose an obviously fake number, such as 333-3333333.
Services that specialize in anonymous messaging usually don't ask you to enter a phone number. The service will generate a random number to send it with
Step 4. Enter the recipient's phone number
This information is always needed. Enter the recipient's ten-digit number. Some services will also ask you to specify the operator.
Step 5. Write and send your message
Type your message, check that you have complied with all the site requirements, then click on "Confirm" or "Submit".
- Your contact will receive an anonymous message.
- Some free messaging services impose a character limit. These character limits usually reflect telephone message limits, and can range from 130 to 500 characters.
