Facebook allows users to interact through a fairly simple method that allows you to comment by posting responses to each post. Friends can comment on your status, photos, links, and more. Comments on Facebook differ depending on whether you interact with a personal profile or a Facebook page. You can learn the basics of how to comment on Facebook and then refine your responses with these best practices.
Steps
Part 1 of 3: Fundamentals of How to Comment on Facebook
Step 1. Create your own Facebook profile
You must be a registered user on Facebook before you can leave comments on a profile or page. If you want to create a page for your business, you need to start with a personal profile that you will need to administer the Facebook page.
Step 2. Ask for friendship from the people you want to interact with
Most Facebook users restrict access to their posts to users with whom they have established a connection, rather than allowing anyone to comment.
- Use the Facebook search engine at the top of your profile to find your friends by searching for them by their names.
- Check out Facebook's suggestions after adding some friends. Click on "friends" under the cover photo. Then, click on the "Find your friends" button. Scroll through the section titled "People You May Know" and forward a friend request to the people you would like to interact with.
- Go back to the "friends" view to find friends using your e-mail address. Find the section that says "Add personal contacts" on the right side of the page. Enter your Hotmail, Yahoo, AOL or iCloud email. Click on the "Find your friends" button and you will give Facebook permission to import your email contacts and invite them to be friends on Facebook.
Step 3. Search for the companies, organizations and media you like using the same search engine you used before
Click on "Like" to view updates on their Facebook page and to be able to comment on their posts.
Step 4. Click the Home button on your profile to view notifications with the status of friends and pages
You should get new updates every few minutes.
You can also access your news livestream via third-party Facebook apps. After downloading the app on your mobile, tablet or computer, set up your Facebook account details and choose the "Home" or "Livestream" sections
Step 5. Choose a status or post you want to comment on
Move the mouse over it. Check the "Comments" box to view other comments and enable yours.
Step 6. Navigate to the end of existing comments
Write your comment in the box. When you are satisfied, press "Submit" to post your comment on Facebook.
Step 7. Edit your comment by placing the cursor over it
Find the pencil that appears to the right of the highlighted column and click on it. Click on "Edit" and alter the text to fix the problem.
The date and time of the last modification will be listed next to your comment. Friends can click on the "Changed" link below the comment to see what you have changed
Step 8. Delete your comment completely by highlighting it and clicking on the pencil icon
Choose "Delete" in the drop-down menu. Confirm that you want to delete the comment.
Warning: Facebook may keep a copy of your comment on their servers
Part 2 of 3: Recommended Procedures
Step 1. Mention other people in your comments to improve interaction
Type the name of the person's profile you want to include, then select the profile from the list of profiles that appears automatically. Once you leave your comment, they will be notified that they have been mentioned.
- It is also possible to include a reference to a Facebook page through the same method.
- Type an @ symbol, then type the page name to select it.
Step 2. Don't post obscene photos, links or swear words on Facebook
You may be removed from the site for inciting hatred, nudity, bullying or harassment as listed in the community rules on Facebook. Using Facebook comments to threaten or annoy third parties can also result in law enforcement intervention and possibly a criminal conviction.
Step 3. Report inappropriate comments by going to the post where the comment appears
When it gets bigger, look for the "Options" button. Select "Report" in the list of options.
Step 4. Use page comments to your advantage
You can use Facebook Pages to contact customer service or get additional help with a product.
Step 5. Don't comment while angry on any page
Even if you delete a comment, people may have already seen it in the meantime. The written word rarely communicates humor, sarcasm or passion in the way that spoken does.
Part 3 of 3: Recommended Business Procedures
Step 1. Ask questions in your Facebook Page posts to encourage comments
You should check the page often after entering a new post to improve the success of your post by replying to others' comments.
Step 2. Use the answers
Facebook pages have the ability to activate replies along with comments. This means that you and your fans will have a reply button to reply directly to a single comment.
- Go to the page you manage. Only page administrators are able to activate replies.
- Select "Edit page" at the top. Click on the settings tab.
- Scroll down the page until you find the word "Answers". Click on "Change settings" to enable the feature and select "Allow replies to comments on my Page". Save your changes.
Step 3. Use Facebook Comments as a Customer Support Tool
Do not eliminate negative comments or questions about the usefulness of your product. Respond by thanking the person for the comment and provide useful information.
Step 4. Watch out for trolls
If someone is posting abusive or questionable comments, they may want to cause a stir on your page. Block a user who you believe is a troll by pointing to their latest post and clicking "Delete and block user."
Once you have blocked someone, they will no longer be able to comment on your posts
Step 5. Reply to each comment
Unless the person just writes an exclamation point, thank your fans and post links for more information. Once your Facebook page becomes more popular, you can be more selective with your responses.
