This article shows you how to block a user on Facebook in order to prevent them from viewing your content or contacting you. You can block a person on Facebook using both the mobile app and the website. If you have blocked a person by mistake, you will always be able to unblock them at any time.
Steps
Method 1 of 2: Using a Mobile Device
Step 1. Launch the Facebook app
Touch the dark blue icon with the white letter "f" inside. If you are already logged into your account, you will be redirected to the "Home" tab of your profile.
If you are not logged in yet, enter your email address or phone number and your security password
Step 2. Press the ☰ button
It is located in the lower right corner of the screen (on iPhone) or in the upper right corner (on Android).
Step 3. Scroll down the menu that appeared to be able to select the Settings item
It is located at the bottom of the list of options.
If you are using an Android device, skip this step
Step 4. Tap Account Settings
You will be redirected to the account configuration settings page.
If you are using an Android device, you will need to scroll down the menu before you can select the item indicated
Step 5. Select the Block option
It is listed within the second group of items on the page visible at the bottom of the screen.
If you are using a device with a small screen, you may need to scroll down the page
Step 6. Tap the field corresponding to the name
It is located at the top of the screen and says "Add a name or email".
Step 7. Type the name of the person you want to block, then press the Block button
You will be redirected to the confirmation page.
If you know the email address associated with the person's account, you can use it instead of their name
Step 8. Press the Block button next to the profile of the user you want to block
You will be given a list of accounts that match the criteria you are looking for, so hit the button Block shown on the right of the one you actually want to block.
Step 9. Press the Lock button when prompted
It is blue in color and located at the bottom of the page. The selected user will be blocked and will no longer be able to contact you.
Method 2 of 2: Using a Computer
Step 1. Log in to the Facebook website
Type the URL https://www.facebook.com into the address bar of the browser. If you are already logged into your account, you will be redirected to the "Home" tab of your profile.
If you are not logged in yet, enter your email address or phone number and your security password
Step 2. Click on the icon
It is located in the upper right of the Facebook page. The main menu will be displayed.
Step 3. Click the Settings item
It is one of the last menu options that appeared.
Step 4. Click on the Block tab
It is listed on the left side of the "Settings" page.
Step 5. Click the text field to enter the name of the person to block
This is the field marked "Add a name or email" located in the "Block users" section.
Step 6. Type the name of the person you want to block, then press the Block button
If you know the email address associated with the person's account, you can use it instead of their name.
Step 7. Press the Block button next to the profile of the user you want to block
You will be given a list of accounts that match the criteria you are looking for, so hit the button Block shown on the right of the one you actually want to block.
Step 8. Click the Block [Name] button when prompted
It is blue in color and located at the bottom of the pop-up window that appears. The selected person will be added to your account's blocked users list.
Advice
- You can also block a Facebook user by going directly to their profile page by selecting the button …, placed at the top of the page and choosing the option Block from the menu that will appear.
- Before blocking a person, consider unfollowing them to avoid receiving all their updates and notifications.
