This wikiHow teaches you how to change the security password of an Apple ID account using a computer or iPhone. If you have forgotten your current Apple ID password, you will need to go through the reset procedure.
Steps
Method 1 of 3: Using the Website
Step 1. Log in to the Apple ID website
Enter the URL https://appleid.apple.com/ into the address bar of your computer's internet browser. This is the official Apple website dedicated to managing information and data relating to Apple IDs, obviously including the security password.
Step 2. Log in with your Apple ID
Unless you have already logged in at least once in the last 30 days, you will need to log in now by providing your profile email address and password. Enter the required data in the field displayed in the center of the page.
If you have activated two-factor authentication, you will need to complete the login process by unlocking your iPhone and pressing the button Allow when required. At this point you will need to enter the six-digit verification code that appeared on the device screen in the appropriate field on the website.
Step 3. Scroll the page that appeared to the "Security" section
It is displayed at the top of the page.
Step 4. Press the Change Password… button
It is located within the "Security" section. A drop-down menu will appear.
Step 5. Provide your current Apple ID login password
Type the password you just used to login to your Apple ID in the first text field located at the top of the menu that appeared.
Step 6. Now enter the new password twice
Select the "New Password" text field and type the new password you have chosen to use, then click the "Confirm Password" text field and retype to verify that it is correct.
- Remember that the passwords you entered in the two text fields must be identical otherwise you will not be able to continue.
- The security password must be at least 8 characters long and must include at least one number, one uppercase letter and one lowercase letter.
Step 7. Press the Change Password… button
It is located at the bottom of the menu that appeared. This will change your Apple ID password to the one you chose.
Method 2 of 3: Using a Mac
Step 1. Enter the "Apple" menu by clicking the icon
It features the Apple logo and is located in the upper left corner of the screen. A drop-down menu will appear.
Step 2. Choose the System Preferences… item
It is one of the options present in the drop-down menu that appeared. The "System Preferences" dialog box will appear.
Step 3. Click the iCloud icon
It is one of the items in the "System Preferences" window. The "iCloud" dialog will appear.
Step 4. Select the Account Details option
It is located on the left side of the appeared window.
Step 5. Go to the Security tab
It is visible at the top of the window.
Step 6. Press the Change Password… button
It is gray in color and is located at the top of the window.
Step 7. Enter the new password twice
Type it in the "New password" field, then enter it again in the "Verify" field.
- Remember that the passwords you entered in the two text fields must be identical otherwise you will not be able to continue.
- The security password must be at least 8 characters long and must include at least one number, one uppercase letter and one lowercase letter.
Step 8. Press the Change Password button
It is blue in color and is positioned at the bottom of the appeared window. This will change your Apple ID password to the one you chose.
Method 3 of 3: Using an iPhone
Step 1. Launch the iPhone Settings app by tapping the icon
It is characterized by a gray colored gear.
Step 2. Tap your Apple ID
It is displayed at the top of the screen.
Step 3. Select the Password and Security option
It should appear at the top of the page that appeared.
Step 4. Select the Change password item
It is located at the top of the screen.
Step 5. Provide your iPhone passcode when prompted
This is the code you use to unlock your device. The screen will appear where you can provide the new password.
Step 6. Enter the new password twice
Type it in the "New password" field, then enter it again in the "Verify" field.

Step 7. Press the Edit button
It is located in the upper right corner of the screen.
Step 8. Choose whether to disconnect all currently synced devices from your Apple ID or prefer not to
When prompted, press the button Go out to disconnect any currently paired device (e.g. iPhone, iPad, Apple Watch, etc.) that is still using the old security password from the Apple ID. If not, press the button Do not go out to skip this part of the step.
