This article shows how to trace the public IP address of the Facebook platform which also determines the geographical location of the physical server to which you connect.
Steps
Method 1 of 2: Windows systems
Step 1. Select the "Start" menu icon with the right mouse button
It is located in the lower left corner of the Windows desktop. This will display a drop-down menu for quick access options.
Alternatively you can use the key combination ⊞ Win + X to quickly access the same menu
Step 2. Choose Command Prompt option
The program icon is characterized by a black square. This will bring up a Windows "Command Prompt" window.
- If there is no "Command Prompt" in the menu that appears, type the keywords "command prompt" into the "Start" menu, then select its icon from the search results list.
- If you are using a computer connected to a LAN at work or school, you may not have the necessary permissions to access the "Command Prompt".
Step 3. Type the command ping www.facebook.com -t into the "Command Prompt" window
There is no text field in which to enter the indicated command, so simply type it within the command line that appeared. As you type, you will see the text appear in the "Command Prompt" window.
Make sure you enter the command as it was provided without adding any other characters or spaces
Step 4. Press the Enter key
The command will be executed by the Windows interpreter who will send a request to the Facebook server. Inside the "Command Prompt" window you will see a series of numbers appear in the following format "123.456.789.101". This is the public IP address of the server that manages the Facebook platform.
Method 2 of 2: Mac
Step 1. Enter the Spotlight search field
Click the magnifying glass icon located in the upper right corner of the screen.
Step 2. Type the keyword Terminal into the search bar that appears
The results list should appear exactly below it.
Step 3. Select the "Terminal" app icon
It is characterized by a black square inside which the white characters "> _" are visible.
Step 4. Type the ping facebook.com command in the "Terminal" window that appears
In this way the operating system will send a request to the Facebook server.
Make sure you enter the command as it was provided, without adding any other characters or spaces
Step 5. Press the Enter key
The command entered will be executed automatically and the Facebook IP address will be displayed in the "Terminal" window.
Step 6. Find the public IP address of the Facebook platform
This is the series of numbers displayed to the right of the "[Number] bytes from" text message.
