This article shows you how to find the approximate geographic location of an IP address. To locate an IP address, the first thing to do is to know this last fundamental piece of information.

Method 1 of 2: Using WolframAlpha
Step 1. Locate the IP address you wish to track
You can use an online service that you can access from Windows, Mac, iOS and Android systems.
If necessary, it is also possible to trace the IP address of a Skype user
Step 2. Log in to the WolframAlpha website using its URL
Copy and paste it into the address bar of an internet browser.
Step 3. Select the search bar
It is located at the top of the main page of the site.
Step 4. Type in the IP address you wish to locate
For example, if you want more information about the Facebook IP address, you will need to type the following sequence 157.240.18.35 into the search bar.
Step 5. Press the Enter key
The search for detailed information about the entered IP address will start, which also includes the location where it is located.
Step 6. Review the search results
The WolframAlpha service normally shows the type of IP address, the provider providing the connectivity (ie the Internet Service Provider, for example Telecom) and the city where the address is currently active.

Step 1. Locate the IP address you wish to track
You can use an online service that you can access from Windows, Mac, iOS and Android systems.

Step 2. Log in to the website that provides an IP Lookup service
For example, enter the URL https://community.spiceworks.com/tools/ip-lookup/ in the address bar of the browser (there are many websites that provide a service of this type, so choose the one that best suits you your needs).
Step 3. Select the search bar
It is characterized by a white text field placed inside the "IP Address or Hostname" box.
Step 4. Type the IP address to be scanned
For example, enter the address 172.217.7.206 to receive more information about the Google web domain.
Step 5. Press the Lookup IP button
It is blue in color and is positioned to the right of the reserved text field for entering the IP address to be examined. This will search for information.
Step 6. Review your results
The IP Lookup service provides basic information relating to the geographical location of the IP address (for example the city and state in which it is active), together with a map showing the precise point of the current position.
