This article explains how to edit the contacts that WhatsApp shares with the default address book of your device.
Steps
Method 1 of 2: On an iPhone or iPad
Step 1. Open WhatsApp
If you are not signed in automatically, follow the instructions to register your phone number.
Step 2. Tap Chat
The icon, depicting two speech bubbles, is located at the bottom of the screen.
Step 3. Tap the "New Chat" button, represented by a square icon and a pencil
It is located at the top right.
Step 4. Tap the name of the contact you want to edit
You may need to scroll down
Step 5. Tap the contact name at the top of the screen
Step 6. Tap Edit at the top right
Step 7. Make any changes you wish to make
Step 8. Tap Save
It is a blue link located on the top right. At this point you will have changed the contact on WhatsApp and on all other applications that use the address book on your iOS device.
Method 2 of 2: On Android
Step 1. Open WhatsApp
If you don't log in automatically, follow the instructions to register your phone number.
Step 2. Tap Chat at the top of the screen
Step 3. Tap the green round button at the bottom right to open a new conversation
Step 4. Tap the name of the contact you want to edit
Step 5. Tap ⋮ at the top right
Step 6. Tap Show Contact
It is the first item on the menu.
Step 7. Tap ⋮ at the top right
Step 8. Tap Edit
Step 9. Make any changes you wish to make
Step 10. Tap ✓
This white link is at the top left. Now you will have changed the contact on WhatsApp and on all other applications that use the address book on your Android device.
