This article explains how to type special symbols ™ (which means "TradeMark", ie identifies a trademark) and ® (which identifies a registered trademark) using a Windows computer, a Mac, or an iOS or Android device.
Steps
Method 1 of 8: Use a Windows System Keyboard Equipped with a Numeric Keypad
Step 1. Select the text field or place in the document where you want to insert the special symbol
- If your computer keyboard does not have a numeric keypad, but the numeric keypad is integrated as a secondary function of other keys, press the Fn key or Num Lock to activate it.
- Although the numeric keypad keys are not shown as a secondary function of the normal keyboard keys, once the key is activated Num Lock the numeric keypad should still work.
Step 2. Press the Alt key
Step 3. Enter the ASCII code 0153 using the numeric keypad
This will display the "TradeMark" symbol (™).
Step 4. Enter the ASCII code 0174 using the numeric keypad
This will display the "Registered Trademark" symbol (®).
Method 2 of 8: Use Unicode Codes (Windows Systems)
Step 1. Select the text field or place in the document where you want to insert the special symbol
This method only works with applications and programs that support the use of Unicode codes, such as WordPad
Step 2. Enter the unicode code 2122, then press the key combination Alt + X
This will display the "TradeMark" symbol (™).
Step 3. Enter the unicode code 0174, then press the key combination Alt + X
This will display the "Registered Trademark" symbol (®).
Method 3 of 8: Mac
Step 1. Select the text field or place in the document where you want to insert the special symbol
Step 2. To type the "TradeMark" symbol (™) press the key combination ⌥ Option + 2
Step 3. To type the "Registered Trademark" symbol (®) press the key combination ⌥ Option + R
Method 4 of 8: Chromebook systems
Step 1. Select the text field or place in the document where you want to insert the special symbol
Step 2. Press the key combination Ctrl + ⇧ Shift + U
Step 3. Enter the unicode code 2122, then press the Enter key
This will display the "TradeMark" symbol (™).
Step 4. Type the unicode code 00AE, then press the Enter key combination
This will display the "Registered Trademark" symbol (®).
Method 5 of 8: Use a Microsoft Office application
Step 1. Select the text field or place in the document where you want to insert the special symbol
Step 2. Press the hotkey combination Ctrl + Alt + T to type the "TradeMark" (™) symbol

Step 3. Press the hotkey combination Ctrl + Alt + R to type the "Registered Trademark" symbol (®)

Method 6 of 8: Use the Copy and Paste from the Web
Step 1. Select one of the symbols in the introduction of this article
Step 2. Copy it to your computer's system clipboard
To do this, press the key combination Ctrl + C.

Step 4. Paste the symbol of your choice into the document

Method 7 of 8: Using the iPhone
Step 1. Select the text field or place in the document where you want to insert the special symbol
Step 2. Press the button? of the virtual keyboard of the device
This is the key to activate the use of the Emoji keyboard and is located on the left of the space bar.
If you have several keyboards installed on your device, press and hold the? Key, then choose the voice Emoji from the context menu that appeared.
Step 3. Touch the icon for typing "Symbols"
It is located in the lower left part of the screen and is characterized by a musical note and the symbols "&" and "%".
Step 4. Select the ™ ️ icon from the list that appears to type in a trademark symbol

Step 1. Select the text field or place in the document where you want to insert the special symbol
Step 2. Tap the? 123 key on the keyboard

Advice
- The ™ symbol can also be typed using the Windows "Character Map" application or the "Keyboard Viewer" on a Mac.
- On Windows systems, you can type special symbols using the "On Screen Keyboard" application. To activate this tool, go to the "Start" menu, type in the keywords "on-screen keyboard" and select the relevant icon from the results list. Activate the "Num Lock" key, click the "Alt" key of the "On Screen Keyboard" three times. Now enter the 4-digit ASCII code using the numeric keypad, then press the "Alt" key on the "On-Screen Keyboard" again. The chosen symbol should appear on the screen.
