Typing the pi symbol (π) from the keyboard can be as difficult as using it in an equation. However, typing the π symbol is not as difficult as it may seem, regardless of whether you are using a Mac or a PC. If you want to find out how to type this symbol in seconds, read this small article.
Steps
Method 1 of 3: Windows
Step 1. Press the key combination ⊞ Win +;
or ⊞ Win +.
. A small dialog box will appear containing a list of emojis and special characters.
Step 2. Select the "Symbols" tab by clicking on the Ω icon
A list of special symbols will be displayed.
Step 3. Choose the symbol table identified by the Ω button
A list of letters from the Greek and Cyrillic alphabets will be displayed.
Step 4. Click on the letter "π"
It should appear in the fourth row of the fourth column of the table.
Method 2 of 3: Linux
Step 1. Press the key combination Ctrl + ⇧ Shift + U
This will activate the insertion of Unicode characters via the corresponding hexadecimal code.
Step 2. Enter the hexadecimal Unicode code corresponding to the pi symbol which is the following 03c0
Step 3. Press the Enter key to tell the Linux operating system that you have completed entering the hex code
. Alternatively, press the key combination ⇧ Shift + U to insert the pi symbol and to be able to insert another Unicode character.
Method 3 of 3: Mac
Step 1. Enter the "Character Viewer" window
Select the keyboard icon visible on the menu bar or press the key combination ⌘ Command + Space, then search for the corresponding app.
Step 2. Click on the search bar
This will allow you to search using the name of a unicode character.
Step 3. Search using the keywords lowercase pi, then press the Enter key
Step 4. Choose the font to insert into the document
It should have appeared in the "Unicode Name" section of the "Character Viewer" window.
Advice
- Try using the classic solution which is to copy this pi π symbol and paste it into the document you are working on.
- You can also use the special string "π" (without quotes) to make the pi symbol appear within a UTF-8 or HTML document.
