Learning how to use a slim jim can be a very useful experience when you are stuck outside your car. Slim jims are great products for getting out of these difficult situations, as they can be used to open car doors without the use of keys. To use one correctly, however, you should practice the procedure for opening a door.
Steps
Step 1. A car door is not just a door
Step 2. Most cars manufactured after 1992 have a lot of mechanics and a variety of control functions housed inside the door
They may have the side impact airbag and electrical harness for the locks. They may have connectors for central locking.
Step 3. If you are not 100% sure what is inside the car door you are trying to open, do not go beyond Step 1 of this article
You would probably damage the car lock by attempting to use a slim jim to open it. Ruining the opening operation of a car can cost you more than $ 150 if you damage it (or damage someone else's).
Step 4. Insert the tool carefully between the passenger door window and the seal
This is a tight space and you may only have about 60mm of access to the lock.
Step 5. Move the tool slowly back and forth until it grabs the lock rod
Step 6. Move it carefully until the block breaks free
The car door is now unlocked!
