Have you lost the key to the anti-theft bolts? This article explains how to disassemble this type of bolts without the appropriate wrench and thus avoid an expensive intervention of the tow truck.
Steps
Step 1. Make sure the key is not in the glove box, on the dashboard, in the trunk or even under the seats
It may also be located under the spare tire.
Step 2. Take the set of sockets and locate the one that fits the safety bolt head
12-sided compasses offer better results. There are also some special ones designed to remove the anti-theft bolts.
Step 3. Choose the sleeve one size smaller and put it on the head of the bolt
Step 4. Snap it onto the bolt by hitting it with a mallet
Step 5. When the compass is firmly attached to the bolt, use the specific wrench to rotate and loosen it
Step 6. Repeat the process if necessary
Advice
- Make sure you don't hit the wheel rim.
- If you have an original car manufacturer-installed safety bolt, call your dealer for a key. Ask if they have a genuine set of safety bolts so you can order the correct one. In case it was an aftermarket bolt, you need to find a way to take it apart.
