Faux cuts are useful for Halloween costumes, movie making, staging of plays and other events that involve a disguise. You can create a pretty convincing wound using products you already have around the house, or you can make a big project with makeup and fake glass shards.
Steps
Method 1 of 2: Create Fake Cuts Quick and Easy
Step 1. Blend some red eye pencil on the skin
Draw a line on the area where you want to pretend you have a cut, then smear it with your finger. Also, tap the pencil around this area creating dots and blend these too. Repeat several times until the skin appears to have been stained with blood.
Red eyeshadow is also useful for this purpose
Step 2. Draw the wound
Pin a red eye pencil. In the center of the shaded area, draw a thin line.
Step 3. Add darker colors (optional)
If you want the wound to be larger and visibly gory, draw a brown or dark red line next to the thin red line. Tap the lines with your finger to blend them slightly between them, without rubbing them and eliminating their shape.
Step 4. Add some lip gloss
This will make the wound glow, giving it a more recent and bloody look.
Method 2 of 2: Create 3D Wounds with Embedded Objects
Step 1. Protect clothes and furniture
Clean your work surface and line it with newspaper. Before you go to work, it's best to put on the rest of the costume, as changing clothes can ruin the cut. If you will create the wound on your face or neck, protect the costume with an apron or bib.
Step 2. Coat the area with false eyelash glue (optional)
Use a moistened make-up sponge to lightly coat the area you intend to apply, then wait for it to dry. You can skip this step if you want, but a false eyelash glue base can be easily removed later using baby oil or makeup remover.
Step 3. Make fake skin with jelly
If you want to insert a fake razor blade or a gushing tube of blood into the wound, the fake skin needs to be particularly firm. You can make it with powdered gelatin and other ingredients:
- Heat several saucers in the oven to the lowest temperature available - they should be warm, but not hot to the touch. Place a metal baking sheet in the freezer.
- Mix the gelatin powder, water, and liquid glycerin (or hand soap) in equal parts. In these ingredients, there should be no traces of sweeteners or other additives.
- Microwave the solution at 5-10 second intervals until a smooth liquid is obtained. Do not touch it during this stage, as it can cause bad burns.
- Remove the saucers from the oven. After putting on a pair of gloves, pour the gelatin into a thin layer on a saucer. Tap the container to make it spread and thin as much as possible, then place it in the cold pan so that it solidifies while maintaining a thin shape.
Step 4. Cut the mixture to create the faux leather
Put the gelatin on the skin and wait for it to thicken before cutting it. Use a butter knife or your fingers to gently make a small cut in the center of the jelly. Pucker or pull the edges of the cut to form a raised layer of fake scar.
For a long cut, make the gash extended but tight. For a more conspicuous wound, make a large, bloody gash
Step 5. Fill the cut with red face paint
Completely cover the inside of the cut by applying the product with a brush. Use only paint designed specifically for the skin: other types of products can cause rashes or more serious health problems.
If the label indicates that the product is non-toxic, this does not guarantee that it is safe for the skin
Step 6. Dye the fake leather with a mixture of red food coloring and cocoa powder
You will need a small amount, so mix the ingredients in a shot glass or other small container. The end result should look like dirty blood, as if the cut has been exposed to dirt and air for hours. Use a paint brush to apply this compound to the fake wound.
- If the fake wound fits your complexion well, you can skip this step, or just spray some cocoa powder for a dirty look.
- If the mix is too light or watery, add cornstarch or honey to thicken it. This firmer compound can also be used to make fake blood (read on).
Step 7. Blend the wound with foundation (optional)
Use a makeup sponge, foundation brush or your fingers to blend the product around the wound in small circular motions. It can be the same shade as your skin tone or slightly lighter.
If you don't have foundation, or using this product alone doesn't seem convincing, roughly brush the mix of cocoa powder and food coloring
Step 8. Add dripping fake blood
To make the cut look particularly creepy, tap a generous amount of shiny fake blood into the center of the cut. Make up the skin around the wound with excess blood.
- Tap a cotton swab on the fake blood and let it drip vertically around the wound.
- Dampen a toothbrush in fake blood and pull the bristles back with your fingers, then letting them spray on the wound to create blood splatters.
Step 9. Insert objects into the wound
The faux jelly skin should be firm enough to hold small objects. You can buy fake glass fragments, fake blades or other similar items in costume shops or "all for 1 euro" shops; afterwards, insert them into the fake leather. A well-cooked, washed and broken chicken bone can add a particularly gory touch.
Never use real blades or shards, not even hard plastic, otherwise you could actually get hurt
Step 10. Splash blood from the wound
To do this, you will need a medical rubber tube (available from pharmacies) or an aquarium aerator tube (you can find this in pet stores). You also need a rubber bulb syringe that can be securely attached to the tube. Fill the bulb syringe almost completely with fake blood, then connect it to the tube. Hide it under your sleeve or fake jelly skin, with the other end of the tube located in the center of the wound. Press the syringe to make the blood splash.
When buying fake blood, check the label. Slightly viscous fake blood creates a more intense effect when splashing
Advice
- You can make fake blood by mixing red food coloring, starch or corn syrup, and water.
- Many makeup kits are available online or at costume shops to create fake wounds. Some of them simply contain the commonly used ingredients listed in the article. The more expensive ones, on the other hand, often have adhesive products and products for making fake leather that are easier to use or that allow you to obtain more dramatic and raised wounds.
- If you are not going to put objects in the wound, you can make the fake skin with petroleum jelly and white flour, darkening it with cocoa or charcoal powder until it fits your complexion. This mix comes off pretty easily, so be careful not to rub it against other surfaces.
Warnings
- Don't use real sharp objects for the fake wound - you risk getting really hurt.
- It can be difficult for beginners to create three-dimensional wounds. With practice you will become better at giving a realistic shape to the fake skin, so the edges will blend naturally with the surrounding skin.
