If your teeth are naturally straight, you save a lot of time, pain and money by not wearing orthodontic braces. However, sometimes you would like to have the typical smile of a wearer of this device, regardless of whether its use is necessary or not. Regardless of whether it's a Carnival costume or you want to change your appearance a little, the appliance allows you to achieve the perfect "adorable nerd" look. There are a couple of techniques to easily make fake orthodontic brackets. But you have to be careful, because every time you put metal on your teeth you run the risk of scratching the enamel. Fake braces don't have to be worn for long periods, just to play disguise or as a costume accessory!
Steps
Method 1 of 2: Using Beads and Staples
Step 1. Open a paperclip with your hands
For this project you have to use a small clip, because the big ones are not suitable, they would give a clumsy and unrealistic look to the teeth. Also, the beads needed for this method would not fit on a thicker paper clip.
Step 2. Bend the clip to shape it into a "U" shape
That way, it should fit around the upper teeth. After having manipulated it and smoothed out any irregularities in the wire, do a test; smile and place the paper clip on the upper arch to check the result and feel the sensation it transmits. Adjust any area that is uncomfortable or unnatural.
Step 3. Count the teeth in your smile
In other words, you need to count the number of visible teeth when you smile naturally. You need a bead for each tooth, the purpose of which is to resemble brackets.
Step 4. Thread the beads into the metal wire (the open paperclip)
You can buy them in haberdashery, in craft shops and you can choose the color you prefer. When they are all on the paper clip, place the thread back in your mouth and smile. Adjust the position of the beads, so that each is in the center of the corresponding tooth; then, carefully pull the wire away from your mouth.
Step 5. Secure the beads in place with glue
Carefully place your "appliance" on a plastic plate and make sure that the beads have not moved from the position you previously defined. Use non-toxic superglue and fix each ball; wait for the adhesive to dry for about 10 minutes. When the beads are firmly in place, you can scrape off the excess glue with your fingers.
Superglue does not degrade in the mouth for three to four weeks. Most likely, you won't be wearing the fake brace 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, so it should last even longer
Step 6. Bend the ends of the paper clip
Take a pair of pliers and shape the ends of the wire into an "L" shape; then, grab the tip of the "L" and fold it to bring it to the long side. In practice, you have to fold it in on itself proceeding slowly and with caution; some patience is needed at this stage. You will need to do a couple of gentle compressions with the forceps to squeeze the fold well.
Step 7. Apply dental wax
You can buy it in most pharmacies; break a stick and roll it between your palms to create two balls. Press each ball onto the ends of the wire.
Step 8. Test the appliance
Gently place the wire on your upper arch and adjust its position. Gently press the wax onto your back teeth so that it holds the braces in place while you try to flatten it to give it a more realistic look. You will have to manipulate the thread a little to make sure it turns out perfect.
Remember that you can only wear the fake orthodontic brace for short periods to prevent it from hurting your teeth or gums
Method 2 of 2: Using a Rubber Band and Earring Clips
Step 1. Get a rubber band of the right size
You have to wrap it in front and behind the upper arch. The best model is the one used to fix thin braids and you can buy it in supermarkets or perfumeries.
Step 2. Attach the butterfly clasps of the earrings
You need a pressure clip for each visible tooth of the smile. Put them on the elastic so that they are all facing the same direction; the flat portion must adhere to the teeth, while the protruding portion must be facing outwards. Once inserted, the clips will look like braces on braces.
Step 3. Put the rubber band around your teeth
Be careful and stretch it gently to prevent it from breaking. When it completely wraps the upper arch, it adjusts the position of the butterfly clips; slide them along the elastic until they are in the center of each tooth.
