The ceiling can get dirty easily, especially in rooms where you cook or where a lot of air circulates due to heating or fireplaces. Sometimes it is necessary to paint the ceiling even without repainting the other walls. This article explains how to finish the ceiling edge without dirtying the walls.
Steps
Step 1. Cover the edges of the ceiling with body repair tape where it meets the walls
The masking tape is used to create a dividing line to avoid soiling or marring the paint on the walls.
Step 2. Apply the duct tape so that it fits snugly so that no color can seep behind the tape
Step 3. Dip the brush halfway into the paint so it doesn't pick up too much color
Step 4. Start from the left edge if you are right handed, or from the right edge if you are left handed
This helps you to position the brush at the correct angle, so as to limit errors and smudges outside the area to be painted.
Step 5. Hold the brush against the ceiling so that it is only resting, without the brush bristles bending, and that the handle is as close to the ceiling as possible
Step 6. Paint with quick passes, pausing each time you need to dip the brush back into the paint
Step 7. Go over with the brush to remove any deposits or drops that would remain visible when dry
Step 8. Hold the brush parallel to the ceiling, with the handle at a lower height than the bristles, so that the bristles bend and contact the side, not the tip, with the surface to be painted
Proceeding in this way, you limit as much as possible the unsightly marks that can be left by the brush, leaving a smooth and uniform surface.
Step 9. Proceed by painting the inside of the ceiling, superimposing the color on the one you just applied and using a small roller to give uniformity by passing over the edge of the brush painted area
Step 10. Wait for the color to dry before removing the tape
Advice
- Choose tape of the appropriate height, at least three centimeters or more, to minimize errors and smudging.
- Use a small, thick brush to paint the corners. Avoid brushes that are wider than 5 cm, so you have better control of the work you do.
Warnings
- Try to use the brush with the color on the tip. If you feel that the color saturates the bristles up to the handle, try to remove it before it drips or drips, risking dirtying the walls and other surfaces.
- Complete one section at a time. The color should be applied when it is still liquid, otherwise you risk that you will notice the marks when it dries.
