Dark eyebrows are very fashionable. Maybe you want to ride the trend of the last few seasons and look like Cara Delevingne or simply the color of your eyebrows does not match that of your hair as you would like. Whatever your reason for wanting to darken them, it is an easy wish to fulfill. You can use makeup as a quick, but temporary fix, or you can dye them for a lasting effect. The third option is to use home remedies to darken them naturally.
Steps
Method 1 of 3: Using Makeup
Step 1. Shape your brows
You should define the shape of the eyebrows before darkening them. You can shave them using tweezers, waxing or the threading method. You can style them yourself at home or contact a professional at a beauty center.
Step 2. Choose the shade you want
If you want to darken your brows, you can use one of the many products formulated for this purpose, choosing from powders, gels, pencils and pomades (also known as ointments). Each of these cosmetics comes in multiple shades, so it's important to find the one that best matches your hair color.
- In the case of red hair, choose a similar color, but slightly lighter if you have a complexion with a pink overtone.
- If you are brunette, you should choose a product that differs no more than two tones from your hair color.
- If you have black hair, it is better to choose cool tones of brown.
- If you are brunette you should choose shades that go on dark brown in order to give a little more warmth to the face than black which makes the overall result darker.
- If you are blonde, your brow tone should be a maximum of two tones darker than your natural hair color.
Step 3. Comb your eyebrows with a special brush (called a "spoolie")
Putting them in order serves to define their shape before darkening them with make-up. You will have less difficulty adding color only where it is needed and the final result will look more natural.
Step 4. Apply eyebrow primer
It should be applied before applying the other make-up products. The function of the primer is to make the makeup last longer and prevent it from smudging.
Step 5. Draw small strokes to darken the eyebrows
With a light hand, fill in the sparser parts with short, thin strokes that follow the natural direction of the hair. Notice how the orientation of the hair changes in the different parts to faithfully replicate it. Pay particular attention to areas where they are naturally sparser. You need to darken the inside of the eyebrows, not the outline.
Step 6. Use a powder product to give volume and three-dimensionality to the eyebrows
Use an angled brush to apply the powder over the entire surface of the brows. Powder products are great because they allow you to use different shades to create a natural three-dimensionality. Use a lighter tone for the parts where the hair is thicker and a darker one where it is sparser.
Step 7. Use a pomade to fix the result
Pomades set eyebrows and last all day without smudging. Use an angled brush to go over the entire shape of the brows, then blend the result by brushing them with the spoolie.
Step 8. Use an eyebrow pencil as a quick fix
It allows you to make them appear darker, thicker and more defined in shape. This option takes less time than the others and is more suitable if you want your brows to look as natural as possible. Proceed with a very light hand if you do not want others to notice your intervention.
Step 9. Use an eyebrow gel to keep unruly hair at bay
You can choose it colored or transparent; the colorless one can be applied after using pomade, pencil or a powder product, while the colored one can also be used alone. Eyebrow gels are used to fix them so that they stay tidy throughout the day, so they are excellent allies in case of unruly hair. Apply it by directing the brush upwards to each section of the eyebrows and let it dry. If you used a color gel, blend it with a clean spoolie.
Method 2 of 3: Dye the Eyebrows
Step 1. Prepare the tint
Go to the perfumery to purchase an eyebrow dye kit. Once at home, mix the powder and the revealing milk following the directions contained in the package. Stir to mix the ingredients until you get a uniform and creamy mixture.
Step 2. The eyebrows must be perfectly clean and dry
Remove all traces of makeup and let them dry completely. You will need to be able to see how the color changes and the make-up could skew the result.
Step 3. Comb before starting
Take the spoolie and direct the hairs up and out. This way you will be able to see them better and you will have less difficulty in dyeing your eyebrows evenly.
Step 4. Test the product
To make sure you have chosen the right color, but most importantly that you are not having an allergic reaction, apply a small amount of the tint to a limited area of the eyebrows.
Step 5. Apply the tint starting from the inner corner of the eyebrows
It is the part where the hairs are thickest and thickest, so a longer shutter speed is required for them to change color. Use the spoolie to distribute the tint on the eyebrows. Leave it on for 1-2 minutes, then add a little more to make sure the color penetrates even where the hair is thickest.
- Apply the product as precisely as possible. You have to make sure that you cover all the hair while remaining within the line of the eyebrows to prevent the color from smudging and staining.
- Wait 5-7 minutes for the dye to do its job.
Step 6. Apply the color on the first and last part of the eyebrows
Continue to use the spoolie to distribute the color in the area closest to the nose and in the area that extends towards the temple. Let the dye work for 5-10 minutes. Note that the brows may appear darker than they actually are while they are covered in the tint.
Step 7. Clean the surrounding skin
During the shutter speed, remove the dye that has landed on the skin around the eyebrows using a cotton swab dipped in warm water. If it gets stained in places, use a facial toner to clean it.
Step 8. Cleanse your brows
When it looks like they are the color you want, use a dark towel and warm water to remove the excess dye. If there are spots on the skin that you hadn't noticed before, take the tonic again.
Method 3 of 3: Darken Brows with Natural Methods
Step 1. Mash some hibiscus flowers
These flowers can gradually make your brows thicker and darker. You can use a pestle and mortar to reduce them into a fine-textured paste. Once ready, apply it on your eyebrows and let it act for 25-30 minutes; at the end of the exposure time, wash your face with lukewarm water. Repeat the whole process every day until you are satisfied with the result.
Generally hibiscus flowers are harmless, but it is best to check with your doctor if you are pregnant, nursing, diabetes, low blood pressure, or planning surgery
Step 2. Apply olive oil before bedtime
Olive oil contains vitamins A and E: the former promotes hair growth, while the latter nourishes them. Massage a small amount into your eyebrows before going to sleep, then rinse your face thoroughly the next morning. Repeat the application every night.
- To further promote hair growth, you can add lavender or rosemary essential oil to olive oil.
- Be careful if you have sensitive skin as olive oil can clog pores causing pimples to form. If they appear, stop using it.
Step 3. Nourish your brows with aloe vera
This plant contains enzymes that can moisturize and nourish the hairs and thus helps them grow thicker and darker. Apply aloe vera juice or extract to your brows, let it sit for 30 minutes, then rinse your face with water. Repeat the application every day.
Step 4. Use coconut oil
Contains iron and vitamin E which help hair grow thick and healthy. Coconut oil also reduces hair loss of protein, protecting it from related damage. Massage it into your eyebrows and leave it on overnight. In the morning, wash your face with warm water. You should repeat the application every night before going to sleep.
