This article teaches you how to highlight text in a PDF document using the free Adobe Reader DC application, made by Adobe and available for Windows and Mac computers, or through the Preview application on a Mac computer.
Steps
Method 1 of 2: with Adobe Reader DC
Step 1. Open the PDF document using Adobe Reader
Proceed by opening the application, characterized by the red Adobe logo and a letter TO stylized white; then click on File, found in the menu bar at the top of the screen, and select You open…. Choose the document you want to open and click on You open.
If you don't have this application, you can download it for free from get.adobe.com/reader and you can use it with Windows, Mac and Android operating systems
Step 2. Click on the tool to highlight the text
This is a marker-shaped icon located on the right side of the toolbar, at the top of the screen.
Step 3. Move the mouse cursor to the beginning of the text you want to highlight
Step 4. Click and hold the key while dragging the cursor across the text
Step 5. Release the mouse button when done
At this point, the part of the document you selected should be highlighted.
Step 6. Click on File in the menu bar and select Save from the drop-down list that is proposed.
By doing so, you save this change.
Method 2 of 2: with Preview on Mac
Step 1. Open the PDF document using the Preview application
Double-click on the blue icon that looks like two overlapping snapshots and then select File from the menu bar. Then choose You open… from the drop-down list proposed, select the document you want to open from the dialog box and click on You open.
Apple's Preview is a native image viewing application that comes with most versions of the Mac operating system by default
Step 2. Click on the tool to highlight the text
This is a marker icon located in the middle but slightly to the right of the toolbar at the top of the screen.
To change the color of the highlighter, click on the down arrow on its right and select the color you prefer
Step 3. Move the cursor to the beginning of the text you want to highlight
Step 4. Click and hold the mouse button, then drag the cursor over the text
Step 5. Release the mouse when done
The selected portion is now highlighted.
Step 6. Click on File in the menu bar and select Save from the drop-down list that is proposed.
By doing so, you save the change you have made.
