This article explains how to change the font of a PDF document. You can make this change using the full, paid version of Adobe Acrobat or using the free web service called PDFescape, in case you don't want to spend any money.
Steps
Method 1 of 2: Using Adobe Acrobat
Step 1. Make sure you have the full version of Adobe Acrobat
The Adobe Acrobat Reader app, which most people normally use to view PDF files, doesn't allow you to make any changes. To be able to make changes to a PDF file, you must use the paid version of Acrobat called Adobe Acrobat Pro.

Step 2. Open the PDF document to edit using Adobe Acrobat
If Adobe Acrobat is your computer's default program for viewing PDF files, you simply need to double-click the file icon to open it.
If Adobe Acrobat is not your computer's default program for viewing PDF files, launch the program, click on the menu File, click on You open…, select the PDF document to edit and press the button You open.
Step 3. Click on the Tools item
It is one of the tabs displayed in the upper left of the Adobe Acrobat window.
Step 4. Click on the Edit PDF option
It features a pink icon located at the top of the "Tools" tab. This will display a sidebar on the right of the document.
Step 5. Select the portion of text to edit
Identify within the document, then drag the mouse pointer to be able to select it completely.
Step 6. Edit the selected text
Use the tools displayed on the right of the window to change the following text properties:
- Character - click on the drop-down menu displayed under the heading "Format", then click on the name of the font you want to use;
- Dimension - click on the drop-down menu containing a number, then select a value larger or smaller than the current one. Alternatively, you can type the number you prefer to assign a custom size to the text;
- Color - click on the small colored box on the right of the text size field, then choose the color you prefer.
Step 7. Save the changes you made to the PDF file
Click on the menu File, then click on the item Save listed in the menu that appeared.
Alternatively you can select the option Save with name to change the name with which to save it and the folder on the computer in which to save it.
Method 2 of 2: Using PDFescape
Step 1. Log in to the PDFescape website
Paste the URL https://www.pdfescape.com/ into the address bar of the browser and press the "Enter" key.
Step 2. Click the Free Online button
It is red and is displayed on the left side of the page.
Step 3. Click on Upload PDF to PDFescape
It is one of the links displayed at the top of the page. A new dialog will be displayed to upload the PDF to be edited.
Step 4. Click the Choose File button
It is gray in color and is located on the left side of the newly appeared window. The "File Explorer" (on Windows) or "Finder" (on Mac) system window will appear.
Step 5. Select the PDF file to edit
Click on the name of the document you want to edit to select it.
You may need to first click on the folder where the PDF is stored using the left sidebar of the window
Step 6. Click the Open button
It is displayed in the lower right corner of the window. The chosen PDF file will be displayed within the PDFescape web page.
Step 7. Click on the Whiteout tab
It is displayed in the upper left of the page.
Step 8. Cover the portion of text you want to edit
Drag the mouse pointer from the upper left corner to the lower right corner of the portion of text that you will replace with the one that will have the characteristics you want. The selected text will be "covered" by a completely white box.
Step 9. Click on the Text tab
It is displayed in the upper left of the web page.
Step 10. Create a new text box
Click on the point on the far left of the white box you drew in the previous step.
Step 11. Select the properties that the text should have
Use the toolbar displayed at the top of the page to change the following options:
- Character - click on the name of the currently selected font, to open the corresponding drop-down menu and be able to select the one to use;
- Dimension - click on the number currently displayed on the right of the font drop-down menu, then select the value you want to use. The larger the number chosen, the larger the text size;
- Style - click on the icon B. to format the text in Bold, click on the icon THE to format the text in italics or click on the icon U to underline the text;
- Color - click on the "Color" box, then click on the color, listed in the menu that appears, which must have the text.
Step 12. Enter the new section of the text
Type the piece of text that will replace the one you covered in the previous steps. The text you are going to compose will be formatted according to the choices you made in the previous step.
You can also choose to type the text first and only format it later, based on your needs
Step 13. Download the edited PDF
Click on the green down arrow icon displayed on the left side of the page. The PDF file you edited will be downloaded to your computer in the default folder used by the browser for downloads.
