Alduin the Eater of Worlds is a time-traveling dragon that feeds on the souls of the dead, and appears twice to battle the player in Bethesda's The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim. Both fights are very similar and not too difficult if you know how to deal with them.

Steps

Step 1. Summons a minion with a ranged attack before the battle begins

This is important, because NPCs can shoot flying dragons with much more accuracy than a player. According to your magical abilities, there are a few different minions you can summon.

A flames atronach fires quickly, but Alduin, being a fire dragon, takes very little damage from fire attacks.
If you've completed the College of Winterhold's "Arniel's Quest" questline, you can summon Shadow of Arniel. This is an excellent minion to use against Alduin, as he deals a lot of damage and is very accurate with his lightning spells.

Step 2. Use the Dragon Slash Scream when Alduin is flying

You will have gotten this scream right before your first meeting. This scream is important because it forces Alduin to land and makes him vulnerable to attack.

Step 3. Let your ally take the damage

In both battles there will be allies who will help you fight the Eater of Worlds. Whenever Alduin lands, wait a few moments for an ally to attack him and grab his attention.

At the Throat of the World, Paarthurnax will help you keep its former master at bay.
In Sovengarde, three heroes from the ancient past will help you defeat Alduin.

Step 4. Don't stand in front of Alduin

His breath attacks are very dangerous, so be sure to position yourself in the best spot to attack him.

If you use ranged attacks, stay as far away as possible.
If you use melee attacks, hit him from behind. You'll still take damage, but its tail attacks are far less dangerous than its fiery breath.

Advice

Alduin is very resistant to fire and ice damage, so be sure to use lightning spells and enchanted weapons to attack him.
Potions of healing and fire resistance can help you survive against Alduin. Stock them up before the fight.
