This wikiHow teaches you how to reset Google Chrome to factory defaults using a computer, smartphone or tablet.
Steps
Method 1 of 2: Smartphones and Tablets
Step 1. Launch Google Chrome on your mobile device
This browser has a red, green, yellow and blue icon with the words "Chrome". Normally, it is displayed on the device home page. If you are using an Android smartphone or tablet, the Chrome icon is stored in the "Applications" panel.
The mobile version of Chrome does not have an option to reset your browser to default settings, however you can follow the instructions in this article to clear your browsing history, cookies, and personal data from your device
Step 2. Press the ⁝ button
It is located in the upper right corner of the Chrome screen.
Step 3. Scroll down the appeared menu to be able to select the Settings option
Step 4. Scroll down the new menu to touch Privacy
It is displayed within the "Advanced" section.
Step 5. Scroll down the menu that appeared to select the item Clear browsing data
It is located at the bottom of the page. A list of options will be displayed.
Step 6. Select the type of data you want to delete
- Within the "Basic" tab you can choose whether to delete the browsing history, site data and browser cache. Select the check button corresponding to the type of information you want to delete.
- To clear your saved passwords, autofill data or hosted app data, go to the tab Advanced and make the selections you want.
- To change the time range of the data set to be deleted, access the drop-down menu displayed in the upper right corner of the screen and make the selection you want according to your needs.
Step 7. Press the Clear Data button or Clear browsing data.
It is displayed at the bottom of the screen. A confirmation message will be displayed.
Step 8. Press the Clear Browsing Data button
All selected information will be deleted.
Method 2 of 2: Computer
Step 1. Launch Google Chrome on your computer
If you are using a Mac, you will need to access the folder Applications. If you are using a Windows computer, you will need to access the section All apps in the "Start" menu.
The Chrome reset procedure disables all installed extensions, clears cookies and restores the program's default configuration settings (including the start page). Your saved passwords, favorites and browsing history will not be deleted
Step 2. Click on the ⁝ button
It is displayed in the upper right corner of the Chrome screen.
Step 3. Click on the Settings item
Step 4. Scroll down the appeared menu and click on the Advanced link
It is located at the bottom of the page.
Step 5. Scroll down the list and click on the item Restore original default settings
It is located at the bottom of the page. A confirmation message will be displayed.
Step 6. Click the Reset button
At this point the default configuration settings of Google Chrome will be restored.
