This article shows you how to add a contact to your email account address book using a VCF file. VCF files, also known as "vCard", store a user's contact information internally that can be easily imported into the address book of any e-mail service, such as Gmail, iCloud and Yahoo, or any client, such as Microsoft Outlook. Remember that in order to use VCF files, you need to use a computer.
Steps
Method 1 of 4: Using Gmail
Step 1. Log in to the Google Contacts website
Enter the URL https://contacts.google.com/ in the address bar of the internet browser. If you are already signed in to your Google account, the list of all Gmail contacts will be displayed.
- If you are not logged in yet, you will need to enter your email address and security password when prompted.
- If the Google Contacts page that appears is not the correct one, click your profile icon in the upper right part of the browser window, then select the account you want from the drop-down menu that will appear. If the account you want to use is not listed, press the button Add account and provide your email address and password to login.
Step 2. Click the More item
It is listed within the left sidebar of the page. The options in the selected section will be displayed.
Step 3. Select the Import option
It is one of the items listed within the section Moreover on the left sidebar of the Contacts page. A pop-up window will appear.
Step 4. Choose CSV or vCard file option
It is displayed at the bottom of the list of available items.
Step 5. Press the Select File button
It is blue in color and located inside the pop-up window.
Step 6. Select the VCF file to import into Gmail
Step 7. Press the Open button
It is located in the lower right corner of the window. The selected file will be uploaded to the site.
Step 8. Press the Import button
It is located at the bottom of the pop-up window. The contact in the selected VCF file will be immediately added to the Gmail address book.
Method 2 of 4: Using iCloud
Step 1. Log in to the iCloud website
Enter the URL https://www.icloud.com/ in the address bar of the internet browser. If you are already signed in with your Apple ID, the iCloud dashboard will appear.
If you are not logged in yet, you will need to provide your Apple ID email address and security password when prompted
Step 2. Select the Contacts item
It's located at the top of the iCloud dashboard. The list of contacts associated with the account will be displayed.
Step 3. Select the "Settings" option by clicking the icon
It is located in the lower left corner of the window. A drop-down menu will appear.
Step 4. Choose the Import vCard… item
It is one of the items in the menu that appeared. The "File Explorer" (on Windows) or "Finder" (on Mac) dialog box will appear.
Step 5. Select the VCF file to import to iCloud
Step 6. Press the Open button
It is located in the lower right corner of the window. The contacts in the chosen file will be imported into the iCloud address book.
Method 3 of 4: Using Yahoo
Step 1. Log in to the Yahoo website
Enter the URL https://mail.yahoo.com/ in the address bar of the internet browser. If you are already logged into your account, your Yahoo mailbox will appear.
If you are not logged in yet, you will need to provide your profile email address and security password when prompted
Step 2. Click the "Contacts" icon
It features a stylized phone book and is placed at the top right of the page. The Yahoo contact list will appear in a new tab.
If you are using an older version of Yahoo Mail, you will need to click on the square icon with a stylized human silhouette located at the top of the page
Step 3. Choose the Import Contacts option
It is displayed in the center column of the Contacts page.
Step 4. Press the Import button located to the right of the "File Upload" section
A pop-up window will appear.
Step 5. Press the Choose File button
It is located at the top of the pop-up window that appears. The "File Explorer" (on Windows) or "Finder" (on Mac) dialog box will appear.
Step 6. Select the VCF file to import to Yahoo Mail
Step 7. Press the Open button
It is located in the lower right corner of the window. The chosen VCF file will be uploaded to the Yahoo site.
Step 8. Press the Import button
It is located at the bottom of the pop-up window. The contacts in the selected VCF file will be immediately added to the Yahoo address book.
Method 4 of 4: Use Microsoft Outlook on Computer
Step 1. Launch Outlook
Double-click the Outlook 2016 program icon with a white "O" on a dark blue background.
- Unfortunately the Outlook website does not support importing contacts via VCF file.
- To import a vCard file on Mac, select it, access the menu File, choose the option Open with, then choose the item Microsoft Outlook. At this point, press the button Save and close when required.
Step 2. Access the File menu
It is located in the upper left corner of the program window. A drop-down menu will appear.
Step 3. Choose the Open and Export option
It is one of the items listed in the menu that appeared on the left side of the program window.
Step 4. Select the Import / Export item
It is visible within the main pane of the Outlook interface. A pop-up window will appear.
Step 5. Choose the Import vCard File option
It is one of the items in the pop-up window that appeared.
Step 6. Press the Next button
It is located at the bottom of the window. The "File Explorer" system window will appear.
Step 7. Select the VCF file you want to import into Outlook
Step 8. Press the Open button
It is located in the lower right corner of the window. The contacts in the VCF file will be added to the Outlook address book.
