If you have an apple-shaped physique, then your upper body is fuller and wider than your lower body. Women with this body type also tend to have thinner arms, legs and hips. How to dress? Read this article to find out!
Steps
Part 1 of 3: General Strategies for Dressing an Apple Shaped Body
Step 1. Confirm your body shape
Some people confuse the apple-shaped one with the pear-shaped one. Remember that an apple-shaped physique tends to be fuller from the waist up, while a pear-shaped one from the waist down. Here are some other features to make sure you don't get it wrong:
- Wide bust.
- Broad shoulders.
- Medium / full bust
- Unmarked waist.
- Leaner arms and legs.
- Flat lower body.
- Hips narrower than the bust.
- Apple-shaped people don't necessarily have a fat belly; having a physique of this type means that your center of gravity, or your extra weight, is focused on the central area of the body.
Step 2. Move the attention away from the central area of the body
Avoid shorts and low-rise pants and any clothing that ends higher or lower than the center of the body. You will want to direct your eye to other parts or create more definition at the waist.
- You should also avoid clothing with different prints in the belly area, as they will draw attention to it more.
- For the same reason, avoid belts that are too thick.
- Avoid tight-fitting shirts and dresses (same pattern).
Step 3. Emphasize the breasts to divert attention away from the central part of the body
Wear V-neck or plunging neckline sweaters and A-line dresses to elongate your body and show off your décolleté.
- Wear empire-style shirts and dresses.
- Be careful not to overdo it. You don't have to wear any flashy necklaces or sweaters in the neck area. Your décolleté is already beautiful on its own, you don't need to adorn it.
Step 4. The apple body is often equipped with a nice pair of legs, so whether you are tall or short, show them off with super short shorts and high heels to stretch your body and create balance
Don't take value off your legs by wearing heavy boots, leggings, or skinny jeans, or they'll look thinner than the rest of your body
Part 2 of 3: Shirts and Dresses That Enhance You
Step 1. The goal of your shirts and clothes is to camouflage the central part of the body
Which to choose?
- V-neck sweaters and tank tops, with a deep neckline, strapless, round neck and narrow bodice. They will draw attention to the torso and lengthen the upper body.
- Avoid sweaters that tie at the neck, those with a too high or embellished neckline, those that leave one shoulder uncovered and those with a boat neckline. They will make your shoulders look wider and draw too much attention to the chest.
Step 2. Choose the right fabrics
Avoid those that are too tight, especially in the central area. Opt for braided ones or those with ruches in the central part of the body to add definition.
Step 3. Choose the right size
While shirts and dresses don't have to be too tight, they shouldn't be overly loose and shapeless either, otherwise you won't give your body definition and your waist will look bigger. Go for the empire cut and the A line. Remember that:
- A sweater or dress that ties at the waist will give your figure definition.
- The links should fall lower than the hip bones.
- You can wear loose-fitting shirts that reach under your butt or tunics.
- Wear shirts with flared sleeves.
- Choose shirts with shoulder details, such as sequins or flowers.
Step 4. Wear the right clothes, such as those from A-line or with a continuous pattern
Another strategy is to find a dress that makes the most of the color blocking, such as a dark dress at the top and a lighter color at the bottom.
- Don't wear a dress with a shaped waistline, or it will draw more attention to this area.
- You can combine an open jacket that is tight at the waist with your dress.
Step 5. Combine the shirt with an appropriate jacket or coat
The right jacket can help camouflage the middle part of the torso. Choose one breasted, without too many details. Wearing a fitted jacket or coat will create curves on the chest and hips and minimize the waistline. Forming layers will allow the figure to be balanced. Here is what cannot be missing in your closet:
- Tailored blazers and coats.
- Open cardigan or vest.
- A raincoat that reaches above the knee.
Part 3 of 3: The Right Pants and Skirts
Step 1. The pants should help you highlight your legs and balance your look
Don't hide them with skinny jeans, leggings and other fabrics that are too tight, or they will look smaller than the upper body. Here are some tricks:
- Avoid pants with too many zips on the front, or you will draw attention to the central part of the body. Opt for those with the side zipper.
- Wear pants with back pockets to create definition in the butt area and balance it with the waist.
- Opt for denim pants, classic cut, bell-bottomed, wide-legged, and bootcut pants.
Step 2. Don't be afraid to wear shorts, which will need to be super short to show off your legs and distract from the waist
You can combine them with an elastic belt that is not too thick and a pair of nude sandals to create a greater optical effect of length.
Use high-waisted ones. Those with a low rise can create a "muffin effect" by drawing attention to the central part of the body. Those with a high waist will slim and define the waistline. This rule also applies to trousers
Step 3. Put on the right skirt, which can be cut on the bias, A-line, flared, trumpet or handkerchief
Avoid those that are tight around the waist or that fall below the waist.
Step 4. Fit the right shoes
They will have to emphasize the legs:
- Opt for platform shoes, wedges, calf-length boots, ballet flats and strappy sandals, which will show off your legs and create a fuller butt.
- Avoid spool heels, buckled boots, Uggs and shoes that make your feet look too big and your legs look smaller by calling attention to the waistline.
