By giving the opportunity to change your appearance at least temporarily, dyeing your hair is always a new and exciting experience. However, since there is no shortage of hitches, it's important to know what to do if you don't like the new color or get stained on your skin, clothing, carpets, or other surfaces during the procedure.
Steps
Method 1 of 5: Make the Color Fade After Tint
Step 1. Make your hair fade using vitamin C
It has been widely proven that it allows them to fade quickly, without causing more than a lot of damage.
- Crush some vitamin C tablets with a pestle and mortar, or put them in a plastic bag and chop them with the help of a rolling pin or hammer. Move the powder to a small bowl and add a tablespoon of water to form a paste. Apply it to your hair, leave it on for about 30 minutes and rinse with warm water.
- Alternatively, you can add vitamin C powder to a clarifying shampoo. Apply the mixture to your hair and cover your head with a shower cap. Leave on for about 20 minutes, then rinse.
Step 2. Lighten your hair with lemon juice
It is one of the safest ways to make them fade, as it limits exposure to chemicals.
- Squeeze fresh lemon juice into a container. Apply it to your hair and cover it with a shower cap, leaving it on for a few minutes. Wash your hair as usual using warm water to remove the juice.
- You can also try making a spray solution by adding moisturizing products such as sweet almond oil, in order to decrease the drying action due to the acidic properties of lemon juice.
- Spray the juice on your hair and expose yourself to the sun for a few minutes before rinsing: this step is also effective in making them discolor.
Step 3. Remove the dye with a cinnamon paste
It is a natural method which, unlike other remedies, does not damage the follicles. It is preferable to use it on dark colors.
- Mix 3 tablespoons of ground cinnamon with conditioner until you get a paste. Apply it evenly to damp hair, soaking roots and lengths well. Cover your head with a shower cap and leave it on overnight. Rinse thoroughly the next morning.
- Alternatively, you can try applying conditioner to your hair, then pouring a paste made from ground cinnamon and water. However, it is recommended to leave it on for the whole night.
Step 4. Drain the dye with a sea salt paste
It is another natural method that allows you to do less damage to the hair. To increase its effectiveness, it is good to expose yourself to the sun after application.
- Mix ½ cup of sea salt with water until it forms a paste, then apply it to damp hair. Expose yourself to the sun to make sure that the combined action of sunlight and salt allows you to discolor your hair. Rinse well after the procedure is complete.
- You can also try mixing 1 part of sea salt and 5 parts of water. Soak your hair well and leave on for about 15 minutes before rinsing.
Step 5. Try fading your hair using honey
It is another natural method that helps to dump color.
- Mix 80ml honey with 60ml conditioner. Apply it well to damp hair and comb to coat it evenly. Cover them with a shower cap and leave on for 8 hours or overnight. Rinse thoroughly after the procedure is complete.
- You could also try using a blend of honey and other lightening substances, such as cinnamon and vinegar. Add olive oil, which has moisturizing properties. Again it is best to leave it on overnight.
Step 6. Soak your hair with chamomile, which brings out the blonde highlights
It is particularly effective on fair hair.
- Put the water on the stove, bring it to a boil and leave the chamomile to infuse for at least an hour, in order to make it well concentrated. Soak your hair and then expose yourself to sunlight to dry it.
- Alternatively, pour a few tablespoons of chamomile into the conditioner. Apply it carefully to damp hair and leave it on for a few minutes before rinsing.
Step 7. Lighten your hair with dish soap
Because it contains more harsh chemicals than shampoo, apply a nourishing conditioner after treatment.
- Massage the cleanser into your scalp and hair like a shampoo until it forms a lather. Rinse it well. Repeat if necessary.
- You could also try mixing dish soap with baking soda to lighten your hair better. Massage it carefully into your hair and rinse it well.
Step 8. Remove the dye using laundry detergent
Make sure the product does not contain bleach or bleaching substances, which will damage the hair.
- Wash your hair using a spoonful of detergent. Create a nice lather and massage it like a shampoo. Rinse well.
- Since it is an aggressive substance it is necessary to use the conditioner after washing.
Step 9. Remove the dye and deeply nourish your hair with a warm oil massage
In addition to allowing you to achieve the desired result, this method is effective for moisturizing the hair.
Massage it from roots to ends. Wrap your hair with a clean towel and let it sit for 1 hour. Rinse with warm water to get rid of any residue well. In this way the hair will return to normal, without being excessively greasy
Step 10. Buy a specific kit to remove dyes and lighten your hair
This product is available in perfumery and in shops that sell beauty items. Follow the instructions on the package. It may be necessary to repeat the application to achieve the desired result.
Step 11. Wash your hair with an anti-dandruff shampoo
It seems to be effective on colors that have already faded slightly or that have been done for some time and have left little residue. This product works best by using it promptly, before the color has time to set well. Being more concentrated than normal shampoo, it has a more powerful action in cleansing and eliminating pigments or other substances. Use it for some time by washing your hair every 2 days and see if it gives you good results.
Step 12. Apply a baking soda paste
It is a natural alternative to bleach, as it has a similar effect.
- To start, moisten your hair with warm water. Then prepare the paste by mixing equal parts of baking soda and shampoo. Massage it into your hair and leave it on for a few minutes. Rinse well.
- Alternatively, mix 2 teaspoons of baking soda with 2 tablespoons of lemon juice. Massage the solution into your hair, leave it on for about 5 minutes and rinse it well.
Step 13. Visit a beauty salon to perform a bleaching bath
It is preferable to have it done by a hairdresser, as it can damage your hair, skin and / or clothing.
- A bleaching bath is a mixture of shampoo and diluted bleach that allows you to lighten your hair. The treatment lasts for a time interval between 5 and 30 minutes, depending on the desired result.
- Remember that the bleaching bath can also affect your natural hair color.
Step 14. Remove the dye by bleaching the hair
Keep in mind that this method should be considered a bit of a last resort, as the bleaching damages the hair a lot. Try bleaching them only if the other methods have proved ineffective.
- Mix 1 part of bleach with 4 parts of warm water: it is preferable that it be as diluted as possible. Put on rubber gloves and massage or rub the mixture into your hair. Leave it on for 10 minutes and rinse it well.
- Once the treatment is complete, nourish your hair thoroughly.
- In most cases, it is better to dye your hair again to get a color similar to the natural one. Before doing this, however, it is good to wait until the hair has all the time necessary to get back on its feet.
Method 2 of 5: Remove the Dye from the Skin
Step 1. Make a mixture of baking soda and lemon juice
It is a natural method of removing finished pigments on the skin while dyeing. Mix 2 teaspoons of baking soda and 2 tablespoons of lemon juice. Apply the solution to the affected area and scrub gently. Rinse and repeat if necessary.
Step 2. Pour olive or baby oil onto a cloth and rub it gently on the affected area to remove the stain
This method is particularly suitable for sensitive skin.
Step 3. Remove the stain using vinegar
Just soak a cotton ball with vinegar and massage it gently on the affected area.
Step 4. Remove blemishes from your skin using a baking soda-based toothpaste
Gel toothpastes are not effective for this purpose. Squeeze it on an old toothbrush and rub it on the affected area to remove the dye.
Step 5. Make a paste by mixing equal parts of baking soda and dish soap
Massage it on the affected area and rinse it well to remove the stain. If necessary, repeat.
Step 6. Spray hairspray on the affected area
It can be effective for removing pigments from the skin. Once sprayed, gently scrub the skin, then wash it with soap.
Step 7. Buy a specific kit to remove stains caused by dyes
It is a product that can be found at the supermarket or in shops that sell beauty items. Follow the instructions on the package to remove the pigments.
Step 8. Pour some dish soap or laundry detergent onto a cloth
At this point, rub it gently on the affected area to remove the stain. Rinse after treatment.
Step 9. Remove stains using hydrogen peroxide
Soak a cotton ball and rub it on the affected area. Try not to touch the hair, or it will cause it to discolour.
Step 10. Remove stains with nail polish remover or isopropyl alcohol
Be especially careful, especially with nail polish remover: it is very aggressive on the skin. Do not use it on the face.
- Soak a cotton ball in solvent or alcohol. Gently rub it on the affected area to remove the dye.
- Hydrates the area well after the treatment.
Step 11. Try using the WD-40 as a last resort
If the other methods don't work, then give this product a try. Spray a small amount on a cotton ball and gently pat the affected area. At the end of the procedure, rinse it well and wash it thoroughly using a soap.
Method 3 of 5: Remove Dye from Clothes
Step 1. If you can't wash a garment right away, dab the affected area with isopropyl alcohol
Helps to dissolve the stain, allowing it to be permanently removed in the washing machine.
Step 2. If you can't use bleach on the garment, soak it in an ammonia solution
- Mix 1 cup of ammonia and 4 liters of water in a bucket. Spread the stained garment over another bucket until it is snug and secure it to the edges of the container with a large rubber band. Slowly pour the ammonia solution over the affected area, allowing it to soak into the fibers and flow into the second bucket. Rinse the garment and then wash it as usual.
- Alternatively, mix ½ teaspoon of dish soap, 1 tablespoon of ammonia and 1 liter of warm water. Soak the affected area for 30 seconds, then rinse it off immediately with water. Gently scrub the stain with an old toothbrush and dab some isopropyl alcohol to make the treatment even more effective. Rinse with water again and wash as usual.
Step 3. As soon as the garment gets stained, immediately spray it with hair spray, making sure to soak the fabric well
Afterwards wash it as usual.
Step 4. Rub some dish soap directly on the affected area
Use one with a degreasing power. Let it soak into the fibers and wash the garment immediately. Repeat if the stain does not go away on the first try.
Step 5. Soak the garment in a solution of vinegar and laundry detergent
Fill a bucket or sink with hot water, adding 2 tablespoons of dish soap and 2 cups of white vinegar. Soak the garment for a few hours and then wash it as you usually do.
Step 6. Consider whether the stain can be bleached
If so, try the following method to remove it:
- Mix 60ml of bleach with 4L of cold water in a bucket. Once the solution has been prepared, soak the dress for up to 30 minutes. Rinse it and wash it as usual.
- Remember: the longer you leave it in the solution, the higher the risk that the color of the fabric will fade or the fibers will be damaged.
Method 4 of 5: Remove Dye from Carpet, Rugs and Fabric Covered Furniture
Step 1. Use a vinegar-based solution to clean upholstered furniture, carpets and rugs
This method is especially recommended for furniture. Mix 1 tablespoon of white vinegar, 1 tablespoon of dish soap, and 2 cups of cold water. Dab a clean sponge on the stain and rub it in a circular motion until bubbles form. Rinse the sponge and pat the affected area to absorb the liquid from the solution. Repeat the procedure by rinsing the sponge and dabbing until the entire mixture is absorbed. Pour 2 tablespoons of isopropyl alcohol on the affected area, then rub it with a clean, damp cloth or sponge for about 5 minutes, then pat it dry with a dry cloth or towel.
Step 2. Immediately spray lacquer on the area of the carpet or carpet that is stained
Cheap lacquer has a higher content of isopropyl alcohol, therefore it is preferable to use such a product. Spray it on the affected area and pat it dry with an old towel to absorb the dye. Repeat the process until the stain is removed, then wipe the carpet or rug with another cleaner to remove the sticky lacquer residue.
Step 3. Remove the stain with a carpet or carpet cleaning solution
Follow the instructions on the package. Some products are sold in the form of a spray, others in the form of a solution to be dabbed on the carpet or carpet to clean it thoroughly.
Step 4. Remove the stain with a cream of tartar based paste
Mix 1/2 cup of cream of tartar with a few drops of hydrogen peroxide or lemon juice until it forms a paste. Apply it on the affected area, let it act for a few minutes and pat it to eliminate it.
Step 5. Remove stains from carpets or rugs with an ammonia-based solution
Mix 1 teaspoon of dish soap, 1 tablespoon of ammonia, and 2 cups of warm water. Dab the mixture obtained on the stain with the help of a clean sponge. Leave it on for at least 30 minutes, dabbing it every 5 minutes with a clean cloth and larger quantities of the mixture. Once the procedure is complete, pat the affected area with a clean sponge and cold water, then pat a towel on it.
Step 6. Try using a basic degreasing cleaner
Follow the instructions on the package to know how to use it on carpet or rugs.
Method 5 of 5: Remove Dye from Bathroom Surfaces
Step 1. Remove the dye from the tub, tiles and grout using diluted bleach
Make a solution by mixing 1 part bleach and 4 parts water. Rub it on the affected area with a sponge or cloth. Before eliminating it with water, it may be more effective to let it act for up to 20 minutes.
Step 2. Remove dye from counter tops using isopropyl alcohol
Just wipe it with the help of a clean cloth or towel.
Step 3. Most bathroom surfaces can be stained with a magic eraser, which is readily available at the supermarket
Follow the instructions on the package to make the best use of it.
Step 4. Clean the stained surfaces using acetone
Rub it with the help of a well soaked cloth.
Step 5. You can also remove stains from a surface using hair spray
Spray it on the affected area, let it sit for a few minutes and remove it with a clean towel or cloth.
Step 6. If the surface is ceramic or acrylic, remove the stain by gently rubbing some toothpaste on the affected area
Let it sit for a few minutes, then remove it with a clean cloth or towel.
Step 7. Remove the stains with a baking soda paste
Prepare it by mixing equal parts of water and baking soda. Rub it on the affected area, let it sit for a few minutes and remove it with a clean towel or cloth.
Step 8. Remove stains using a vinegar solution diluted with water
Rub it on the affected area, let it sit for 30 minutes and remove it with a clean cloth or towel.
Advice
- To avoid staining your skin, always wear rubber or latex gloves. You should also apply petroleum jelly to the hairline, more specifically along the forehead, around the ears and at the nape of the neck.
- Remove the cool dye with a cotton ball or an old, damp towel before it sets on your skin.
- Nail polish remover is effective for removing dye stains from nails.
- To avoid staining your clothes during the procedure, wrap your shoulders with an old towel. You may also be wearing old clothing that you can easily get dirty, but remember that the dye may seep through the fibers and stain the leather.
- To remove the stain, wash your clothes or other fabrics by setting the washing machine to the maximum temperature. However, consider whether hot water might cause them to shrink - if so, set a proper wash cycle.
- To avoid staining carpets and rugs while dyeing your hair around the house, lay an old towel, oilcloth, or tarp on the floor in the area where you work.
- Before trying any of the methods outlined in the article, blot excess dye from carpet or rug using a paper towel or old towel.
- You can also apply petroleum jelly to bathroom surfaces where the dye may splash to avoid staining them.
Warnings
- Don't mix ammonia and bleach to get rid of a stain. When combined, these substances trigger a chemical reaction that generates toxic gases and fumes.
- When using bleach, allow the room to ventilate to let the fumes out.
- Bleach should not come into contact with metal containers or utensils.
- Avoid putting the products you use to remove stains from your eyes or mouth.
- Do not allow your clothes to dry until the stains have been removed, or they will stick to the fabric.
- Before using a solution, always try it on a hidden part of a dress, carpet, or upholstered furniture, as it can damage it or cause it to fade. If it doesn't cause any adverse effects, feel free to use it to treat the stain.
